- (2) For each side of pedestal frame, 1 1/2″ x 7 1/4″ x 29″
- (3) For each top and bottom pedestal support, 3/4″ x 2 1/2″ x 26 1/2″
- (1) For each drawer back on pedestal, 3/4″ x 3 1/2″ x 24″
- (2) For each side of pedestal drawer, 3/4″ x 3 1/2″ x 22″
- (1) For each front of the pedestal box, 3/4″ x 5 1/2″ x 26 1/4″
- (3) For each pedestal top board, 1 1/2″ x 11 1/4″ x 32″
- (1) For each bottom pedestal drawer, 1/4″ x 22″ x 25 1/2″
Step 1: Determine the size of your pedestal
Because washing machines and dryers unfortunately do not all come in the same size, your pedestal may differ from mine in terms of overall measurements. For me, the washer and dryer were 28″ wide and 29″ deep. So I made my pedestals 28″x 29″ overall. Measure your own washer and dryer to make sure this size fits, and if not, modifications to this plan are pretty simple. Also note: For height, I made mine 8 3/4″ tall overall. You can also modify this for a higher stand if you wish.
Step 2: Cut the side and back pieces

Cut the side and back pieces for the supports according to the cut list. These will be cut from a 2x8. If a taller support is desired, you can also use 2x10 or 2x12 boards for these pieces.
Step 3: Punch the pocket holes on the back

Drill 1 1/2″ pocket holes in both ends of the back piece.
Step 4: Assemble the pedestal frame

Using 2 1/2″ pocket screws, attach the back piece between the side pieces as shown through the pocket holes in step 2.
Step 5: Attach the drawer slides

It's easier to attach the drawer slides now than it will be later, so go ahead and place the drawer slides on the inside of the bracket as shown. Hold so the front of the drawer is ¾” from the front to accommodate a recessed drawer front.
Step 6: Attach the top and bottom brackets

Using strips of plywood, or 1x3 material, cut three pieces according to the cut list above and drill ¾” pocket holes in each end. Then connect with 1 ¼” pocket screws. One piece should be at the top in the back, one at the top in the front and one at the bottom in the front.
Step 7: Assemble the drawers

Cut the drawer pieces according to the cut list and cut slots so the bottom of the drawer slides along the bottom of the pieces. Or, you can staple 1/4″ plywood to the bottom if you don't want to ccut the slots. Assemble the drawer boxes using ¾” pocket holes and 1 ¼” pocket screws for someone who has a 25 1/2″ wide x 22″ long drawer. Drill 3/4″ pocket holes in the sides of the drawer boxes facing forward to attach the drawer front in the next step.
Step 8: Add Drawer Front

Cut the drawer front according to the cut list and attach to the front of the drawer boxes using the pocket holes at the end of step 7.
Step 9: Add the Drawer to the Pedestal Frame

Attach the drawer to the drawer slides and place it on the pedestal frame.
Step 10: Cut and Drill Holes for the Lid

Cut three pieces of 2x12 board to 32″ long and drill 1 1/2″ pocket holes along the edges of two of them as shown.
Step 11: Glue the top

Glue and clamp these pieces together making sure the pocket holes on the underside are where they can be screwed.
Step 12: Cut out the top

Using your Kreg tool, trim the top to the desired size. In my case, it was 28″ x 29″.
Step 13: Screw on the caps

Using 2 1/2″ pocket screws, screw on the top as shown. This, in addition to the glue, will help prevent the top from separating over time at the seams.
Step 14: Attach the top

Turn the top face down and place the pedestal frame and drawer face down on it. Screw the pedestal to the top through the brackets at the top using 1 1/4″ wood screws.
Step 15: Build a second

Build another stand in exactly the same way and finish as desired. Add pulls or knobs OR cut a slot in the top like I did to open the drawers.
Step 16: Drill holes for the legs of the washing machine

Finally, as an optional step, just before installing the pedestals, use a large drill bit (larger than the foot of your washer and dryer) and drill shallow holes for them to seat. This will help prevent them from “leaving” the platform.
Step 17: Add the washer and dryer

Now, simply put the washer and dryer in place in the holes and you're done
