What would happen if someone returned to the bronze of the first aquatic devices? Well, we had a legendary watch. IWC Schaffhausen He has done so and wanted, in the process, to pay tribute to the father of the Theory of Evolution and the tools that led his ship Beagle to discover the Galapagos Islands in 1835.
Aquatimer Chronograph 'Expedition Charles Darwin' Edition by IWC Schaffhausen takes a new step in the development and innovation of diving watches by looking to the past of nautical instruments. The Swiss company uses bronze for the first time for a watch case in a metal alloy that pays homage to nautical instruments of the 19th century. Used by men for more than five thousand years, bronze is a non-corrosive material that for years allowed the creation of some of the most important gadgets of expeditionary science.
The case and the outer-inner rotating bezel of the newAquatimer Chronograph Charles Darwin Edition, are made of bronze. The warm color is also found on the hands, indices and quarter scale of the inner rotating bezel in the form of luminescent mass. The contrast with this tone is produced by the matte black rubber coating of the crown and pushers intended for handling the chronograph manipulation elements. The strap, with IWC's new patented quick-change system, is also made of black rubber.
Like the rest of the chronographs of this new generation, theAquatimer Chronograph Charles Darwin EditionIt has an innovative external-internal rotating bezel with IWC's SafeDive system.
To mark the start of a dive, the precise audible bezel is rotated in one-minute steps until the triangle on the inner rotating bezel points toward the minute hand. During diving, you can check at any time, on the scale of the internal rotating bezel, how long you have already been underwater.
The SafeDive system ensures that the inner rotating bezel can only be rotated counterclockwise so that the indicated dive time can be lengthened but never inadvertently shortened. A newly constructed clutch system transmits the movement of the bezel to the interior of the case.
El Aquatimer Chronograph Charles Darwin EditionIt has a caliber 89365 movement made entirely inSchaffhausenand is equipped with IWC's efficient double ratchet rope system and protected against shocks and jolts.
In timekeeping, the central hand is responsible for determining the timed times in seconds, the small hand located on the small inner dial at “12 o'clock” indicates the timed minutes. The integrated flyback function allows, by pressing the reset button, to reset the stop-running needle to zero and immediately start new timing.
The small seconds hand located at "6 o'clock" makes its rounds for permanent control of the functions and can be stopped for synchronization processes. In addition, it is equipped with a watertightness of 30 bar.
The engraving on the back of the watch shows a portrait of Charles Darwin, father of the Theory of Evolution.IWC SchaffhausenSince 2009, he has collaborated with the Charles Darwin Foundation, to which he makes numerous contributions to safeguard the natural balance of the Galapagos Islands.
