Thailand School Shooting: Teen Suspect Kills 7, Injures 30+ 2026

The Thailand school shooting has left at least seven people dead and more than 30 injured, as officials confirmed that a 14-year-old suspect opened fire at Debsirin secondary school in Bangkok. This tragic event has reignited debates on gun control and school safety across the nation.

Details of the Attack

According to Thai police, the teenage suspect first killed his grandparents at their home using a handgun belonging to his grandfather. He then traveled to Debsirin School, where he was a pupil, and began shooting. Police reported that five teachers were shot at the school before the suspect turned the gun on himself.

Authorities have confirmed that at least 30 people were injured, with nine in critical condition. Among the severely wounded is a 12-year-old girl with a bullet wound to the head, who remains in a coma. Two other patients have undergone surgery and are now stable.

Government Response and New Gun Law Proposal

Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul stated that the suspect was “under stress” and appeared to have planned the assault. In response, he has vowed to propose a new law to restrict the carrying of firearms by the public, a significant move in a country with one of the highest rates of private gun ownership in the world.

The Higher Education minister has also urged citizens to donate blood at hospitals near the incident, and police have collected evidence from the suspect’s home, including computer equipment.

Impact on School Community

Debsirin secondary school has announced that all classes will be suspended from 10 to 14 August, with staff instructed to work from home. This decision aims to allow students and faculty to recover from the traumatic event and for authorities to complete their investigation.
