Donald Trump has endorsed Mike Lindell in the Minnesota governor’s race, calling the MyPillow founder “one of America’s greatest and most hard working Patriots.” This high-profile endorsement could reshape the Republican primary and general election dynamics.
Trump’s Endorsement and Its Impact
In a Truth Social post on Wednesday, Trump praised Lindell for his efforts on election integrity, a central theme of Lindell’s campaign. The endorsement comes ahead of the August 11 Republican primary, where early voting is already underway. Trump’s backing may boost Lindell’s visibility, but he still trails in general election polling.

Polling Data: Lindell vs. Klobuchar
A June Star Tribune/KARE 11/Hubbard School Minnesota poll shows Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar leading Lindell 53% to 36%, with 11% undecided. This is Klobuchar’s strongest showing against any Republican contender. The same poll found Klobuchar leading other GOP rivals, including Kendall Qualls (48% to 37%) and Lisa Demuth (48% to 40%).
| Candidate | Klobuchar Support | Opponent Support | Undecided |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mike Lindell | 53% | 36% | 11% |
| Kendall Qualls | 48% | 37% | 15% |
| Lisa Demuth | 48% | 40% | 12% |
Key Takeaways from the Race
- Trump’s endorsement solidifies Lindell as a MAGA-aligned candidate in a crowded primary field.
- Lindell faces a residency question, having previously registered to vote in Texas before claiming Minnesota residency.
- The primary ballot includes Kendall Qualls, Lisa Demuth, Scott Jensen, and Peggy Bennett, among others.
- Klobuchar enters as the Democratic frontrunner after launching her campaign in January.
Residency Controversy
Lindell was born in Minnesota and built MyPillow there, but he spent several years registered to vote in Texas. In a court filing last year, he described himself as “a Texas citizen.” He now says he has re-established Minnesota residency and will meet the state’s one-year requirement before the general election. This issue could affect voter perception and legal challenges.
Open Governor’s Seat
The race is open because incumbent Governor Tim Walz is not seeking re-election. This creates a competitive environment for both parties. Lindell’s campaign focuses on election integrity and conservative values, while Klobuchar emphasizes her record and bipartisan appeal.
