Crystal Palace have landed US prospect Zavier Gozo in a $15m deal, a move that sees the 19-year-old live up to the hype. The Premier League club finalized the transfer from Real Salt Lake on Tuesday, securing the right wing-back on a five-year contract. Gozo's rapid ascent from MLS academy standout to European football has been one of the most talked-about stories in American soccer.
Zavier Gozo's Rapid Rise Through the Ranks
Gozo joined the Real Salt Lake academy in 2021 at age 14, debuting with their second team, Real Monarchs, a year later. His MLS debut came in 2023 when he was still just 16, making him one of the youngest players to feature in the league. Over time, he emerged as an option at right wing-back, offering precocious confidence on the ball and a fearless approach to attacking play.

From Real Salt Lake Academy to Premier League
His first full season with RSL saw him contribute four goals and three assists in 1,810 minutes. This season, Gozo has been given increased license to stay upfield, and his technique in close quarters has been especially impressive. With six goals and five assists in 1,417 minutes, his end product has improved dramatically. His ability to set up his own shot as well as create dangerous looks for teammates helps him stand out among his peers.
What Gozo Brings to Crystal Palace
Gozo's style fits the modern Premier League demands for dynamic, attacking full-backs. He has made 67 progressive carries upfield, a category led by Lionel Messi, Denis Bouanga, Evander, and Anders Dreyer – four members of last year's MLS Best XI. This stat underscores his ability to drive the ball forward and break lines, a trait that will be invaluable in England's top flight.
His defensive work rate has also improved, though his attacking output remains his primary calling card. Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner will likely deploy him as a wing-back in a back-three system, allowing Gozo to exploit his offensive instincts while providing cover from the center-backs.
