GB News will not face an Ofcom investigation after presenter Bev Turner claimed there was “no riot” in Belfast, despite cars and houses being set alight, attacks on police, and families fleeing. The regulator received 446 complaints but ruled the comments were not a breach because Turner was challenged and expressing her own view.
Ofcom’s Decision on the GB News Riot Claim
Ofcom decided not to investigate the August 2024 broadcast, stating that Bev Turner was challenged by a guest and that her statement was presented as personal opinion. Turner later said she was relying on “sparse footage” and feared the government would use the disorder to introduce new controls.
