The new Ali G film titled Who Iz I? has sent shockwaves through celebrity circles and even sparked celebrations in Staines. Sacha Baron Cohen's iconic character returned with a viral Wimbledon stunt that foreshadowed a full-length movie directed by Cohen himself, set for release on 23 October.
Ali G's Wimbledon Stunt Sets the Stage
During the Wimbledon men's singles final, Ali G—dressed in a custom jacket with cannabis leaves replacing crossed rackets—heckled Prince William, offered drugs, and posted on Instagram advertising his services. Security released him without penalty, but the smartphone footage captured by Cohen himself is likely to appear in the new film. This brazen appearance confirmed that a new Ali G project was underway.

Why Staines Is Celebrating
Staines, the fictional hometown of Ali G, has long embraced the character's absurd charm. Local businesses and fans are already planning watch parties and themed events. The film's directorial debut by Cohen adds a layer of authenticity that long-time followers appreciate.
Film Details and Celebrity Reactions
The movie, Ali G: Who Iz I?, marks the directorial debut of Sacha Baron Cohen. It will be released worldwide on 23 October, with no US theatrical release yet announced—a shift from 2002's Indahouse. Celebrities including Prince William, David Cameron, and JD Vance have been mentioned in connection with the film, though their involvement remains unconfirmed. The appalled reaction to Cohen's recent Netflix comedy Ladies First (which he neither wrote nor directed) suggests this self-directed project is a wise move.
