The F Ward review highlights how this new medical drama starring Anna Friel struggles to match the intensity of recent hospital series like The Pitt. Set in an underfunded Sydney hospital, the show follows a group of struggling intern doctors given one last chance to prove themselves.
Plot and Premise of The F Ward
The series, created by Dan Edwards and Kelsey Munro, revolves around five flawed interns, including Jimmy (Ioane Sa'ula) hiding a heart condition and Ellie (Lola Bond) haunted by a fatal prescribing error. Their mentor, Dr Gloria Wall (Anna Friel), must whip them into shape while battling resource shortages.

Despite an intriguing setup, the execution feels flat. The hospital setting lacks authenticity, with an overly bright aesthetic that undermines the tension. Characters like Josh (Alex Fitzalan) and former nurse Lisa (Emily Barclay) never fully engage viewers.
Performance and Direction
Anna Friel delivers a competent performance as Dr Wall, but the writing doesn't give her enough depth. The supporting cast improves as the series progresses, yet the pacing remains sluggish. Director Edwards fails to capture the urgency that makes hospital dramas compelling.
