If you are looking to give a different look to your bedroom, then learn how to how to make a multifaceted lamp the easy way.
Thanks to that lamp I made, I was inspired to make another one with the same technique, but the main idea was to create different patterns for each side of the cube.
This makes this multifaceted lamp even more interesting to look at because you can see 4 different light effects, depending on which way you turn your lamp!
Steps to make a multifaceted lamp:
Like most of my lamps, even this one is made from recycled corrugated cardboard, so it's eco-friendly and, believe it or not, it's very simple to make!
#1: Materials and tools

- Corrugated cardboard: I used one with 3 layers of waves, so many of the measurements in this tutorial are based on it (it is 1.5 cm thick – 0.59")
- White glue
- Cutter
- Rule
- Pencil
- Lamp holder with cable
- LED bulb: there will be no fire danger this way!
#2: Cut the frames

- This lamp is made up of many frames, so the first thing you need to do is draw a 19 cm (7.48") square on the cardboard.
- Now draw another 8 smaller squares, one smaller than the other. You should leave 1 cm (0.39") of space between them. This way you will get 8 squares with a smaller square in the middle.
- Using a cutter and a ruler, cut all the frames being very precise and, starting with the largest, keep the first, third, fifth, seventh and the small square. You can put the others aside.
- The first group of paintings is done. Now make 3 more groups like this. Each group will make up one side of your lamp. Don't throw those "medium" frames away! You'll still need some later and you can use the rest to make another lamp, like I did.
#3: Compose the first side

- Each group of squares will make up a different pattern, so let's start with one of the groups.
- Place the second largest frame on the largest and glue one of its angles to the angle of the other frame, as you can see in the image. Their sides will join together as well.
- I chose to do this in the bottom left corner, but you can do the same in another angle, it doesn't really matter.
- Now repeat what you just did to glue the third, fourth and small square inside each other, always joining them on the same side.
- The first side of your lamp is finished.
#4: Compose the second side

- The second side is very similar to the first, except that the angles of the frame do not touch each other this time. Only its sides do.
- So glue the bottom of the second larger frame to the bottom of the larger frame, making sure to center the smaller one as much as you can.
- Continue gluing the frames of that group inside each other with their bottom sides touching each other.
- The second side is done.
#5: Compose the third side

- Consider another set of frames now.
This pattern will create a "spiral" effect and is a little more complicated. - The second frame should be attached to the lower left corner of thefirst frame.
- The third box should be attached to the top corner of the second box on the left.
- The fourth frame should be attached to the top corner of the third frame on the right.
- And finally, the small square should be glued to the bottom corner of the previous frame on the left.
- It's much easier done than said! You simply need to glue your angles one at a time in a clockwise direction (or vice versa).
- Third side: done!
#6: Compose the fourth side

- This is probably the most fascinating.
- Take your last group of frames and place the second one inside the largest one as usual: turn the second one to the right and glue its corners to the sides of the large frame.
- Place the third frame inside the second one and turn it counterclockwise this time. Glue your corners to the sides of the other frame as you did before.
- Place the fourth frame inside the third, turn it clockwise again and apply glue to its corners to secure it.
- Finally, place the small square on the last square, turn it to the left and apply glue. The square will be too small to touch the sides of the frame, so glue only 2 of its corners.
- The last side is over!
#7: Compose the screen

- Now that you have all four sides, it's time to join them together to form a cube. The sides will be called pieces from now on, otherwise it would be too confusing.
- Take one piece and apply glue to one of its edges (where the waves are) and stick it to the back of another piece, making sure to place it on its edge, forming a right angle.
- Do the same with the other 2 pieces.
- Compose the cube by joining the two and apply glue as you did before.
#8: Create the lamp support piece

- You still need a piece to hold the lamp holder, so draw a 17.5 x 5 cm (6.88" x 1.96") rectangle on cardboard.
- Its length is as long as the inside of the cube.
- Trace the outline of the base of the light bulb in the center of the rectangle and draw a square around it, equally large.
- I recommend drawing this square because it is much easier to cut by hand than a circle.
- Now cut everything with a cutter, including the small square that you will eventually remove. That will be the hole for the lamp holder.
- Place the lampshade upside down and glue the cardboard rectangle to the inside of the cube, keeping it close to the top edges.
- Be sure to center it and press the two opposite sides of the cube so they adhere to the rectangular piece.
#9: Make the base pieces

- The last pieces you need are the base ones.
- These pieces are new frames made up of separate strips of cardboard.
- To make these pieces, draw 8 strips on cardboard. These strips should be 19 x 1.4 cm (7.48" x 0.5").
- 1.4 cm is actually the thickness of the cardboard, so be sure to adjust this measurement according to the thickness of your cardboard.
- Now take 4 strips and glue the ends to form a frame.
- Do the same with the oafter 4 strips.
#10: Compose the Base

- Now glue the 2 boxes together, one on top of the other.
- Cut a 1 cm (0.39") piece from the center of one of the strips, as you can see in the third image. You will need this hole for the cable to pass through.
Your base is ready!
Place the lampshade face down again and glue the base on top, right where the rectangle is.
Remember to keep the side with the cord hole on top (this will eventually be the bottom of the lamp).
#11: Finish the top

Remember those “intermediate” tiles you removed from the tile groups at the beginning? I told you not to throw them away because now you need 2 of them.
- Consider just one group of frames.
- Take the first larger box and the second one: place the second one inside the other one and turn it to the left. Glue its corners to the sides of the large frame as you did with one of the sides of the lamp.
- Apply glue to the corners of the large frame now and place it over the lamp, turning it clockwise to match the edges.
It is important not to put smaller frames this time because you need this larger hole to be able to install the bulb when you want.
#12: Install the bulb socket and bulb

All you have to do now is insert the bulb socket from the bottom of the lamp and place the bulb into it.
#13: Finished
Without a doubt a beautiful DIY job, also remember that you can make a multifaceted lamp with the measurements you want.

The lamp is gone and you can finally turn it on and admire it 🙂
