Moira Deeming, the Victorian Liberal MP, has been disendorsed as a candidate for the upcoming state election, marking a dramatic turn in her political career. The state party executive voted on Friday afternoon to cancel her endorsement for the number 1 position in the Western Metropolitan region, citing unresolved internal conflicts.
Background of the Disendorsement
Deeming had withdrawn a last-minute Supreme Court challenge against party president Brian Loughnane, which she filed to prevent the party from moving against her. The controversy stems from an incident in May, where Deeming accused fellow Liberal MP Matthew Guy of grabbing her in a headlock. However, CCTV footage showed Guy placing his hand on her upper back during a conversation, leading police to conclude no offence occurred.

Guy publicly demanded an apology from Deeming, stating she owed him one along with the Premier and Attorney-General. The party’s decision to disendorse her now places her future in jeopardy, as she will lose her MP position after the November election unless she runs as an independent.
