Dazn Acquires Australia Cricket Rights in Landmark Streaming Deal 2026

Dazn has acquired the UK broadcasting rights for Australia's Test series against Bangladesh, marking a significant shift in cricket media rights. This landmark deal sees the global streaming platform enter international cricket for the first time, potentially reshaping how fans access the sport.

The Dazn Cricket Move: A Game Changer

Dazn, primarily known for football and combat sports, will broadcast the two Test matches in Darwin and Mackay. This one-off purchase from Cricket Australia is a strategic play, positioning Dazn strongly for future negotiations, including the England white-ball tour and the 2029-30 Ashes.

What This Means for Cricket Fans

For UK viewers, this means more fragmented coverage, as traditional broadcasters like Sky Sports and TNT Sports face new competition. Dazn's aggressive expansion into cricket could lead to better prices or exclusive content, but also potential subscription fatigue.

Strategic Implications for Cricket Australia

Cricket Australia has struggled to attract competitive bids for UK rights, with Sky Sports reducing winter tour coverage. By selling to Dazn, they gain immediate revenue and create a bidding war for premium series. This could increase overall rights value.

Dazn's Existing Cricket Investments

Dazn already owns Foxtel, which holds Cricket Australia's domestic rights until 2031. This vertical integration gives Dazn production capabilities and a foothold in the Australian market, making UK expansion a natural step.

• First international cricket broadcast for Dazn in the UK
• Potential to bid for 2029-30 Ashes against TNT Sports
• England's white-ball tour this autumn could be next target
• Fans may need multiple subscriptions to watch all cricket

Impact on England's White-Ball Tour

England's eight ODIs and T20s in Australia, plus the 150th anniversary Test in Melbourne, are up for grabs. Dazn's willingness to take the Bangladesh series puts it in pole position, but other broadcasters remain interested.

What's Next for Cricket Broadcasting?

This deal signals a shift from traditional TV to streaming. With Dazn's global reach, cricket could see increased international viewership, but also fragmented access. The next few months will reveal if Dazn secures the white-ball tour.

Key Takeaways
