Robert Jenrick has strongly criticized the government for not offering Nigel Farage a security meeting earlier, calling the delay a political failure. The Reform UK Treasury spokesperson argued that the meeting only occurred after the tragic death of Ann Widdecombe, highlighting a pattern of neglect in protecting high-profile politicians.
Jenrick's Accusations Against the Government
Speaking on BBC Radio 4's Today programme, Jenrick accused ministers of playing politics with the safety of politicians. He claimed the home secretary could have arranged a meeting with the chair of the royal and VIP executive committee (Ravec) long ago but chose not to. Jenrick stated, "The government chose not to give Nigel the security that he needed. They now have, as a result of Ann Widdecombe's appalling murder, offered him a meeting."

The Security Package Controversy
Reports indicate that Farage previously rejected a state-funded security package, which included a bodyguard, a secure car, and a trained driver. Jenrick confirmed this, noting that Farage turned down the package because it represented a downgrade from his previous protection. Initially, Farage had a comprehensive security plan that was later reduced, leading to the current dispute.

Political Reactions and Media Scrutiny
Nick Robinson challenged Jenrick on his attacks against the media, the government, and House of Commons speaker Lindsay Hoyle. Robinson questioned whether Jenrick and Farage were trying to change the subject nationally from Farage's £5m gift to his security arrangements. Jenrick defended his stance, emphasizing that Reform UK politicians are "fighting the establishment every single day."
