Trump administration border czar Tom Homan recently questioned how an ICE officer involved in a fatal shooting in Maine cleared the vetting process. Speaking on CNN's State of the Union, Homan stated that if abuse allegations from the officer's ex-wives are factual, the officer should never have been hired.
Background of the Maine Killing
The incident occurred on July 13, when ICE officer David Brouillette allegedly shot and killed 25-year-old Joan Sebastián Durán Guerrero in Biddeford, Maine. Since the shooting, two of Brouillette's ex-wives have come forward with accusations of domestic abuse, including a persistent pattern of intimidation and control.

Vetting Process Under Scrutiny
Homan emphasized that an internal investigation is underway to determine how the vetting process failed. He asked whether the information about the officer's past was available at the time of hiring and if proper checks were conducted. The Department of Homeland Security has not publicly confirmed Brouillette's identity but is cooperating with the probe.
