The Austin FC academy sexual abuse investigation has launched a major probe involving multiple players in the club’s youth system, with both the Austin Police Department and the FBI now looking into allegations of youth-on-youth misconduct. The case, first reported by the Guardian, centers on interactions among academy players and has led to immediate disciplinary actions by the club and league.
According to sources familiar with the matter, several academy families reported the allegations to Austin FC. The club confirmed in a statement that it became aware of the issues in December 2025 and promptly notified MLS, the U.S. Center for SafeSport, and local law enforcement. The academy suspended all activities for the affected age group while conducting an internal investigation in coordination with the league.

Police and FBI Confirm Active Investigations
The Austin Police Department acknowledged the investigation but declined to provide further details due to its sensitive nature involving juveniles and its ongoing status. An FBI spokesperson stated the bureau could “neither confirm nor deny” the existence of an investigation, though sources confirm FBI agents have visited the club’s training facility to conduct interviews.
This dual law enforcement involvement underscores the seriousness of the allegations. Youth-on-youth sexual abuse cases are complex and require careful handling to protect all minors involved while ensuring accountability.
Club and League Response
Austin FC Academy stated it took immediate action after learning of the allegations from concerned families. The club suspended all activities for the age group under investigation and initiated an internal probe. Sources within MLS and Austin FC indicated that multiple academy players have been disciplined as a result of the investigation, though no academy staff members have faced action. Both the league and club said they could pursue additional sanctions if new evidence emerges.
The case highlights the vulnerabilities in youth sports programs and the importance of robust reporting mechanisms. Below is a comparison of reporting protocols in professional soccer academies versus independent youth leagues.
| Aspect | MLS Academy (Austin FC) | Independent Youth League |
|---|---|---|
| Reporting Requirement | Mandatory reporting to MLS, SafeSport, local police | Varies by organization; often voluntary |
| Internal Investigation | Coordinated with league and law enforcement | May lack resources or standardization |
| Player Suspension | Immediate for involved age group | Ad hoc, may not be consistent |
