Jermain Defoe's departure from Woking after just four months in charge is now explained by the club's director of football, Jody Brown, who cited “growing concerns” over the former England striker's commitment. The mutual termination of his contract on Thursday was preceded by missed training sessions and a failure to submit requested reports, according to Brown.
The Shocking Exit of Jermain Defoe from Woking
The 43-year-old former Tottenham Hotspur and England forward had described his first managerial role as an “eye-opening” experience, but the National League club has now publicly detailed the reasons behind his sudden exit. Brown, who recommended Defoe's appointment, admitted taking full responsibility but revealed that concerns had been mounting for weeks.

According to Brown, feedback from players, staff, and other departments indicated growing unease. A request for a report on squad depth and recruitment targets was made multiple times but never received. A scheduled meeting with directors and management was also missed, along with that day's training session.
