In her lifetime, Parton was skeptical about the idea, which first surfaced last year. She told the Tennessean, "I think that's probably more of a joke than anything. I mean, it does sound like a lot of fun to say: 'Your flight is departin' from Nashville's D Parton.'" Despite her humility, the initiative gained momentum when Nashville Mayor Freddie O'Connell and Tennessee Governor Bill Lee endorsed the change.
Political and Public Support
Governor Lee praised Parton's impact, stating, "Dolly Parton's extraordinary life is forever woven into the fabric of our state. It is fitting that Nashville International Airport would bear the name of our state's favorite daughter and greet travelers with the enduring legacy of Dolly's music, generosity, faith, and kindness." After the commissioners' vote, Lee called it an "important step to honor her remarkable legacy."

Parton's influence extends far beyond music. Her Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, attracts millions of visitors annually and generates substantial revenue for the state.
