Wigan's dominant derby win over St Helens highlights the growing gulf between the two Super League giants, with Paul Rowley's sacking failing to spark a turnaround. The Warriors ran riot after halftime, with Bevan French scoring one try and creating four more, cementing his status as Super League's greatest overseas player. St Helens, despite a spirited first half, could not keep pace as injuries mounted and their young bench struggled.
How Wigan Dominated the Derby
The match was in the balance at the break, with St Helens trailing by just six points after tries from Jacob Douglas and Jack Welsby either side of French's first score. But Wigan's half-back produced two superb assists for Zach Eckersley to put the Warriors ahead, and they never looked back. After the interval, Wigan's intensity and depth overwhelmed a depleted Saints side that suffered three more injuries.

Bevan French: The Difference Maker
Returning from a hamstring injury, Bevan French was unstoppable. His vision and pace carved open the Saints defense repeatedly. French's performance added further weight to the argument he is the finest overseas player ever to grace Super League. Wigan coach, while satisfied, demanded more from his team, acknowledging there are elements they can improve.
St Helens' Troubled Rebuild
Paul Rowley's dismissal after just nine months made him the club's shortest-serving coach in 50 years. The decision, while harsh in timing, was not unexpected given St Helens' regression. They sit seventh in the league, struggling with injuries and lacking the depth of their rivals. The task for his successor is enormous: not just to secure a playoff spot but to oversee a full rebuild.
