FIFA has opened an investigation into the violent scenes that followed Spain’s World Cup final win, with several Argentina players facing potential bans for their involvement in post-match brawls. The disciplinary committee is reviewing incidents that marred the championship game.
Details of the Post-Match Incidents
Nahuel Molina appeared to strike Spain’s captain Rodri in the stomach as he ran onto the pitch after the final whistle. A large melee erupted on the halfway line, where Leandro Paredes reportedly grabbed Eric García by the throat before throwing Gavi to the ground. Paredes was subsequently shown a red card by referee Slavko Vincic.
