  Instructions to build it

Step 1: Place the base

Place the pallet down and make sure it is level. Cut some strips of chipboard that are approximately 50mm high to form a perimeter around the top of the pallet.

Step 2: Mix concrete

Mix concrete in a ratio of 1:2:4 (1 part cement, 2 parts sharp sand, 4 parts aggregate). Use the shovel to put the concrete into the wooden mold.

Step 3: Place bricks

Place the bricks in approximately the correct position before fixing them permanently in place. We used foam to create a support to create the curve that the arch bricks rest on.

Step 4: Use cellophane

The first step here is to cement the first (ground) layer of bricks in place with a fine mixture of cement and fine sand (a ratio of about 1:3 would be fine).

Step 5: Add sand

The sand is wrapped in cellophane or plastic sheets to prevent the sand from sticking to the inside of the kiln, where there may be some wet cement.

Step 6: Place bricks

Start placing the bricks forming layers on the side of the cellophane sheet. At this stage it is good to cement the chimney in place.

Step 7: Coat the surface

Mix a little more concrete as in step 2. Spread it generously all over the outside of the pizza oven.

Step 8: Let dry

Once the concrete has dried it is time to remove the arch supports. Carefully tear the side of the bag and begin digging in the sand.
