Cable management is one of the most common things I struggle with during my projects.

Looking at a huge pile of twisted, twisted and tangled colorful wires is enough to give anyone a headache.

Steps to make spiral cable wraps:

I used some spiral wire wraps to organize the connections on a 3D printer, and I wanted some more. None were found locally, so I set about creating my own.

With a little experimentation and a couple of references, you can make your own cable management wrappers.

Step 1: Materials and Supplies

You don't need much to create these practical organizers:

• 1/2″ diameter flexible plastic tubing (available at your local hardware store)
• Sharp knife
• A big pile of tangled wires (easy to find in my workshop)

Step 2: Cut Your Pipe

Start by measuring the length of the cables you want to monitor. My crazy bunch was 4 inches. Use your knife to cut the tube to size.

Step 3: Spiral Cut!

Now comes the fun part. Place your knife at a 30-degree angle to one end of your flexible tube. Press the point down and start rotating the tube. Make sure you maintain the same 30-degree angle with your knife. Continue turning until you have reached the end. As you rotate the tube, it should pass through the knife.

Step 4: Wrap your cables!

And that is it. To use it, take your spiral cut tubing and wrap it around a bundle of wires. Continue wrapping until you have used all the tubes. The nice thing about this management tool is that it will extend to fit a wide range of cable sizes.
