Former NFL star Antonio Brown will accept a plea deal on an attempted murder charge in Miami, avoiding a possible 30-year prison sentence. The 38-year-old wide receiver is scheduled to appear in court next Wednesday to finalize the agreement, his lawyer Mark Eiglarsh confirmed Wednesday.

Details of the Antonio Brown Plea Deal

Under the terms of the deal, Brown will plead guilty to a lesser charge of aggravated assault, a significant reduction from the original attempted murder charge. This plea allows him to avoid prison time entirely. The incident stems from a May 2025 celebrity boxing match in Miami, where Brown allegedly grabbed a handgun from a security member and fired two shots at Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, a man he had fought earlier. Nantambu told investigators that one bullet grazed his neck.

Brown's attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, explained the decision: "They made [Brown] an offer he couldn't refuse. There is a profound difference between believing you can win a case and deciding that you and your family cannot afford to spend another year, or potentially several years, wearing an ankle monitor and fighting it." The victim, Nantambu, has forgiven Brown and no longer wishes to participate in the case, according to his attorney Richard L Cooper.

Legal Implications and Sentencing

The plea deal carries substantial legal weight. If convicted of attempted murder, Brown faced up to 30 years in prison. By accepting aggravated assault, he likely faces probation, community service, or other non-custodial penalties. This outcome hinges on judicial approval, which is expected at next week's hearing.

Legal experts note that victim cooperation often influences plea bargains. Here, Nantambu's forgiveness and withdrawal from the case played a pivotal role. "We believe that the ends of justice are accomplished with this plea deal, and my client wishes Mr. Brown good health," Cooper told ESPN.

Charge Potential Sentence Plea Deal Outcome
Attempted Murder Up to 30 years in prison Dropped
Aggravated Assault Up to 5 years in prison Accepted; likely no prison

Impact on Antonio Brown's Career and Legacy

Antonio Brown's NFL career included stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was a four-time All-Pro and a Super Bowl champion with the Buccaneers in 2021. However, his post-football life has been marred by legal troubles and controversial behavior. This plea deal allows him to avoid prison, but the felony conviction could still affect his public image and future opportunities.

Brown has not commented publicly on the plea deal. His attorney emphasized that the decision prioritizes family and avoiding prolonged legal battles. The hearing next Wednesday will finalize the agreement, barring any last-minute changes.
