If you long for long sandy beaches with the classic Spain package tourists and the clubs and sangria bars on the waterfront, you definitely won't find what you're looking for in Cadaqués on the Costa Brava. Instead, you will find a little bit of authentic Spain here.
Cadaqués, the town with almost 3,000 inhabitants on the Cap de Creus not far from the border with France, is something very special. Separated from the rest of the Costa Brava by a mountain range up to 700 meters high, the place has largely retained its original character.

Salvador Dalí also appreciated this, as he had already expanded his family's villa in the bay of the Portlligat district in the 1930s and lived there after his exile in the USA from 1948 until his death in 1989.
Salvador Dalí invited artists such as Pablo Picasso, Gabriel García Márquez and Luis Buñuel to Cadaqués. The fishing town with its many white facades, the equally white Gothic church of Santa Maria, the narrow streets and the pretty square near the waterfront promenade has always had a magical appeal to individualists.
Dalí's villa is now a museum
Dalí's villa in Cadaques-Portlligat is now a museum open to the public. In small groups, visitors are guided through the house, which is peppered with the master's works. Between June 17th and September 8th the museum is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 7:50 p.m., otherwise between 10:30 a.m. and 5:10 p.m. Entry costs 18 euros, reduced price 14 euros per person. The world-famous Dalí Museum can be found in Figueras, 30 kilometers away, in the hinterland of the Spanish region of Catalonia.

How did the coasts in Spain get their names?
The Costa Brava is so beautiful away from the castles
The surroundings of Cadaqués
There are beautiful and clean bathing bays in the area around Cadaqués. Some can only be reached by boat or via difficult hiking trails. However, anyone who longs for long sandy beaches with the classic Spain package tourists and the discos and sangria bars on the waterfront should not come to Cadaqués. Such holidaymakers will find what they are looking for in Roses, about 25 kilometers away behind the mountain range, or in the dozens of similar seaside resorts on the Costa Brava such as Tossa de Mar or Lloret de Mar near Barcelona.
