Learn how to install a PVC window in an easy and practical way with us with the following steps you have to perform.
Every year we have to review the condition of the house's windows, perform maintenance on their rails or hinges, depending on whether it is sliding or folding, verify that the seals are in good condition and replace the damaged ones.
But it is common that with the passing of the years and the blows that are given to the windows, they deteriorate so much that they pose a danger to humidity and cold, especially in summer, that is why in this project we will teach how to install a PVC window.

Tools to use:
- Bucket
- 6mm concrete wick
- Cardboard knife
- Screwdriver
- Spatula
- Safety glasses
- Gloves
- Meter
- Plain
- Mask
- Hot gun for silicone
- Sprayer
- Drill
Materials to use:
- Sika Polyurethane Foam
- Exterior stucco 45 kg bag Topex
- Acrylic sealant with fungicide
- PVC1 Window, 100x100cm Beagle Windows
- Plaster bag 1 kg Ibérica
When we have to choose a window, it is important to consider that choosing a thermo panel window saves between 50 and 60% of heating costs, since it has double glass, which leaves a layer of dry air in the middle, and since it is hermetically sealed, neither cold nor heat leaks in. There are PVC windows that have thermopanel, so in addition to being resistant, light and easy to maintain, they are good temperature insulators.

Before You Begin
With the old window still placed in the opening, rectify the framing of the opening, this is done by measuring the 2 diagonals. They are square when they measure the same, if there is any difference you have to chop or match with stucco.
Measure the height and width of the opening to choose the correct window size. It is recommended that the opening be larger than the window between 5 and 15 mm. If it is more than that, the opening should be filled with plaster or stucco. On the other hand, if the window is larger, you have to scrape it with a spatula to remove the excess mortar.
Step by step on how to install a PVC window
#1. Remove the old window
- Unscrew the window frame.
- Using a spatula or cardboard knife, cut the silicone seal from the old window and remove the frame.

#2. Repair the gap
- When the old window is removed, the opening must be cleaned, and if pieces of stucco or plaster have come off, they must be repaired with the same material, taking care not to modify the measurements of the opening that have already been rectified.

Recommendations
Remove one of the sashes from the window to be able to work more comfortably, to be able to secure it from the frame and move it without the risk of it falling.
Window flap:
PVC windows come with a fin along the entire edge. This fin is used when it is going to be installed on a wall that will be covered with siding on the outside, since the fins go underneath the siding strips and help prevent water leaks through the joints. In the case of a concrete, brick or partition wall, the fins must be cut with a cardboard knife.
#3. Level the new window
- Present the new window in the opening and place some wedges on the lower edge to raise it and reveal the missing space. These wedges must also be placed on the sides, if there is no space to fill.
- Using the spirit level, check that the window is straight in all its corners and center of opening; if it is uneven at any point, change the size of the wedge until the level is centered.

Recommendations
It is important that there is always a space of at least 5 mm. on the lower horizontal of the window so that the drainage channel is uncovered, this is where the awater that accumulates due to condensation or rain falling on the glass.
Bubble level:
This is a very important tool to have, since with it we can verify that any object or materiality is correctly horizontal or vertical, this is what is known as a level. The bubble moves according to the level, if it is straight it places itself in the center, otherwise it runs to the place where it is inclined.

#4. Mark the perforations
Use marker to mark the place where the fixings will go. This is on the sides and horizontally greater than 15 cm. from each end, and to the center, as long as this measurement does not exceed 50 cm. If the window is larger, a 4 fixation should be placed in the center. There are NO perforations in the lower horizontal because the drainage channel would be perforated.

#5. Fix the window
- Use the drill and drill bit to make the holes in the marks, passing only through the PVC frame, this is the path for the screw.
- Fix the window with screws. In the case of galvanized steel partitions (Metalcon), it must be a self-drilling screw, and if it is wooden partitions, use a screw for this material (with a point, but not self-drilling).

Concrete wall fixing:
The measurements are exactly the same, what changes is that you have to make the holes in the window and wall with a concrete drill bit, remove the window to put the plugs in, re-present and level the window with the wedges, to finally screw it in.
#6. Fill the space
- Wet the inside of the space between the opening and the window with a sprayer.
- Apply the polyurethane foam with the dispenser. Let dry
- Cut the excess with a cardboard knife, you can sand it and even paint it

Polyurethane foam:
It is a product that expands to fill holes, joints, and spaces in materials such as wood, concrete, metal, plastic. It is an excellent thermal and acoustic insulator, sealing ventilation duct installations and pipe passages. When fully hardened it can be cut, sanded and painted. It is not affected by variations in air humidity, and the transmission of sounds and noises decreases.
#7. Seal the joints
On the outside of the window, seal all the joints with an acrylic sealant, applying a bead with the caulking gun, which is then smoothed with a wet finger or a spoon.

Window sealant:
Excellent adhesion to most construction materials. Once cured, the seal can be sanded and painted with water-based paints. It also contains a fungicide, making it a very good sealant outdoors and in humid areas such as the bathroom and kitchen. It is applied with a caulking gun, and the cartridge nozzle must be cut at a 45º angle with a sharp tool, so that the outlet diameter corresponds to the width of the joint to be filled.
#8. Make the windowsill
- Make the mixture of exterior stucco and water, as the manufacturer says in its instructions.
- So that the water drains and does not accumulate in the opening, it is necessary to make a difference in level that in construction is called sill, it is made with exterior stucco, leaving the edge that faces the window about 5 mm higher.

Stucco:
When you want to match a wall or opening on the outside, you have to use an Exterior Stucco, which is a pre-dosed mixture that is only prepared with water, and which has a high degree of impermeability.
#9. Curing time
As stucco is a mixture of cement with other aggregates, it must have a curing time, this consists of letting it dry for 12 hours, then beginning to wet it every day.for 1 week, until the salts that emerge from the cement are eliminated.

#10. Paint
- To finish, paint the sill, which has already finished its curing process, and the opening both on the outside and inside, this way the polyurethane foam and acrylic sealant will be hidden.
- You can use any color paint for your window. With this last step it is finished and you will have learned how to install a PVC window.
