Sisters and daughters are the biggest give anyone could possibly get. They are the most resilient souls and would always stand up for their siblings and parents. They come with these big pouches of patience as well which makes them rock solid in the most tough situations, and they always come out swinging victorious because of that.
Given this data embedded in your mind, if your sister or daughter ever asks you for your help, it means that the woman has already tried everything in her power to resolve the matter at hand and nothing has worked. It means she is in an endangered situation and is in separate need of help, at times even her survival could be at risk.
That is exactly what happened in today’s story as shared by Reddit user u/aita112022, the sister-in-need’s brother. OP shared that no one in the family showed support to his sister as she got married to a man her mother wanted her to make a bond with. The terribleness of that wedding decision came forward as the husband showed characteristics of being ab*sive in nature. When the sister got pregnant and was left with no other option, she contacted her brother who gave her advice to end the relationship with her husband and any proof of it, being the only option for her to restart her life.
The sister obliged, ended her pregnancy, and took took divorce from her husband. It worked as the decision allowed OP’s sister to start a new, positive, chapter in her life. However, the rest of the family, being OP’s siblings, and his mom, called him an AH for essentially “ruining” his sister’s life.

1. Just by reading the title it sounds like OP is an AH but we must never judge a book by its cover so let’s jump in.
2. OP has two older brothers in a similar age group and a sister who belongs to his age group. For parenting purposes, the family was very conservative and caring when it came to the upbringing of the two elder brothers.
3. WHen it came to the upbringing of OP and his sister, their father had developed quite a successful career so the two got to go to nice colleges and complete their Master’s education while the elder brothers didn’t even go to college.
4. Their mom had ambitions to have her daughter married to a churchgoer’s son. The plan only came into acceleration after the father passed.
5. After the dad’s passing, the older brothers and the mom are now living with OP.
Living in someone’s house you don’t like because your dad favored him? I don’t know how this is going to go.
6. OP’s sister ended up marrying the same guy her mom was trying to set up with him. She even gave up on her career. OP did not like these life choices.
7. Two years into the marriage, OP’s sister got pregnant and all just didn’t seem right to OP so he decided to call her and ask everything that was in her heart. She broke down.

8. Turns out the husband had been ab*sing OP’s sister ever since their marriage began and no one was helping her, not even her elder brothers or mom.
9. When she called OP to tell him she had been kicked out of the home for complaining, he got straight and told his sister to move out and restart her life.

OP, get her out of this as soon as you can. Women are born with the most rock-solid pouch of patience one would ever be able to carry. If she is calling you, it means she has tried everything in her power and nothing has worked, and now she needs a helping hand. She probably knew no one else would help her out, not even her mother. She contacted OP for a reason. This is the time to save the sinking ship. Be the brother you must become to save your sister from the ruthlessness of her husband and everyone else in the society including her other brothers and mom. She deserves to live life her way.

10. OP told his sister to move on from the marriage as well as the pregnancy as it wasn’t the end of things. The very next day she asked OP for some money.
Perhaps she is ready to take the advice.
11. Within a month, OP’s sister contacted him again to let him know she had found a job in NYC and had also ended her pregnancy. She had also filed for a divorce. All of this got turned against OP by his family who called him an AH for making his sister end her pregnancy and divorce her husband.

12. Although in his heart everything OP did was right but the backlash he received made him turn to the AITA community to ask if what he did was wrong to right.

NTA all day every day. Helping your sister out of an ab*sive relationship makes no one an AH.
Here’s what the AITA community had to say about this:
13. You helped your sister restart her life when it should’ve been your mother or her elder brothers to do it in the first place. They are the real AHs.

14. Well OP did mention the house would soon be on sale so I am guessing the others have a share in it?

15. If anything, this act makes OP a hero. Nowhere near an AH.

16. The verdict of the AITA community was very clear.
