Fontanot DIY Stair Kits: Space-Saving & Stylish Solutions 2026

Fontanot's new stair kits offer convenience and a small footprint, ideal especially in situations where space is limited and you want a functional, design-forward staircase. These kits represent the most valid solution for tight spaces. If the staircase serves a secondary function, simpler and more compact choices can be adopted. Think of access to a loft or attic – in the latter case, if used as uninhabited storage, retractable stairs are often installed.

Stair kits thus represent the most suitable solution between a true prefabricated staircase and a retractable model. They are made up of modular elements that anyone with a bit of DIY skill and basic tools can assemble themselves, achieving significant savings on the overall cost. Each individual segment of the stair kit (comprising step, support, and connecting elements) is designed to offer various adjustments, leaving you free to choose between rise, tread, and rotation values on the vertical axis: the path can therefore be linear or curved, and the staircase adapts perfectly to any available height and length situation.

For a successful installation, having the right home improvement tools and materials on hand is essential.

Kya Stair Kit: A Space-Saving Marvel

The Kya staircase from the Arkè Fontanot range represents an economical and space-saving solution thanks to the particular shape of the steps (58 cm wide) which allows for partial overlap. They are made of solid beechwood in light or dark stain, to be mounted on steel supports painted black, gray, or white. The railing of this stair kit consists of painted steel uprights and steel cables parallel to the handrail. The handrail is PVC with an aluminum core, matching the color of the steps.

An important upfront evaluation must be made in the presence of underfloor heating. Assembly of these stairs is only possible if, during the laying of the pipes, a free space was left for fixing the stairs to the floor. Assembly must still take place after the masonry work is finished.

Installation of KYA Stair Kits

Before starting assembly, ensure you have a clear workspace. The modular design means you can often complete the project over a weekend. Consider complementing your new staircase with stylish lighting fixtures to enhance safety and ambiance.

Step-by-Step Assembly Overview

• Plan the Layout: Determine the exact position and rotation of your staircase. The KYA system allows for significant flexibility.
• Prepare the Floor: Ensure the fixing points are clear and the floor is level. Use appropriate anchors for your floor type.
• Assemble the Stringers: Connect the modular support elements according to your planned rise and tread.
• Attach the Steps: Secure each solid beechwood step to the supports. The overlapping design creates the signature space-saving profile.
• Install the Railing: Fit the steel uprights and thread the cables. Finally, attach the PVC handrail.

To keep your tools organized during the project, a sturdy work surface or desk can be invaluable.
