Sunnytrips author Anna Wengel (Chiodo) visited the Irish capital Dublin a few years ago. Here she presents six of her favorite places in the small city.
It's been a few years since I visited Dublin and to be honest, thanks to the short time I was there, both times I mainly limited myself to the more touristy, inner-city part. By the way, it's easy to walk, as the city on the River Liffey is not particularly large despite its capital status. The whole of Dublin measures 115 square kilometers. For comparison: Berlin is almost eight times larger (891 square kilometers). Here are six of my favorite places in Dublin.
1. Trinity College Library
2. Merrion Square Park
3. Temple Bar
4. Grafton Street
5. George's Street Arcade
6. Ha'penny and O'Connell Bridge
1. Trinity College Library
Trinity College is a tranquil, picturesque place in Ireland's capital. You quickly feel like you've been transported to the English university cities of Cambridge and Oxford, after which Trinity College was built. A very special place at this point: the wonderful old library, which contains, among other things, the world-famous Book of Kells from the 8th or 9th century.
2. Merrion Square Park
Ireland's capital also has several nice parks where you can also relax and take a walk. One of my favorite places in Dublin is the beautiful Merrion Square Park, where a larger-than-life Oscar Wilde leans permanently against a stone. St. Stephen’s Green and Iveagh Gardens are also worth visiting.
3. Temple Bar
Probably every tourist who ends up in Dublin sooner or later ends up in the Temple Bar district. The famous pub of the same name is located here, as well as a number of other, generally well-attended pubs. I particularly liked the quaint alleys and cobblestone streets with their typical Irish shop facades in Temple Bar. In addition to pubs, there are various restaurants, boutiques and other shops here.

4. Grafton Street
Very centrally located, you inevitably end up on Grafton Street, the main shopping street in the Irish capital. I fondly remember the pretty, charming shopping street with all kinds of shops and regular musical accompaniment from various street musicians.

5. George's Street Arcade
At least as nice and not far from Grafton Street is George’s Street Arcade. The hustle and bustle of the indoor shopping paradise is not only worth it when it rains, there are lots of things to discover here, from vintage to food.

6. Ha'penny and O'Connell Bridge
When exploring the city, I like to stand on bridges or walk around river banks and watch the hustle and bustle, including in Dublin, especially in the evening. A pretty bridge with nice views and less hustle and bustle is the 200-year-old footbridge Ha'penny Bridge, which is also a Dublin landmark. There's a lot more going on on the O'Connell Bridge, which also runs over the Liffey and connects Dublin's north and south sides.
