Traveling the world and looking for traditional restaurants? “Tasteatlas” has chosen the 100 most legendary restaurants worldwide. Sunnytrips presents the three winners and shows the top 25.
What is typical Cologne, Brooklyn, Zurich, Belgrade or Singaporean cuisine? You can find out about this in the results of a current ranking by the culinary travel guide “Tasteatlas”. This evaluated 23,952 traditional restaurants from all over the world and chose the 100 most legendary. The top 100 were convincing as “cultural landmarks” that are “known for their longevity, reliability and iconic dishes” and embody “the spirit of their cities”. According to the authors, the ranking reflects their history, public and “Tasteatlas” ratings for their specialties. There are also three German restaurants in the top 100, and one is even in the top five.

The traditional Viennese restaurant Figlmüller is, according to “Tasteatlas”, the most legendary restaurant in the world and, according to its own statements, the home of the schnitzel. Known for the classic Wiener Schnitzel as well as the apparently outstanding potato salad, it impressed 52 restaurant critics according to “Tasteatlas”. The traditional Viennese family restaurant is now run by the fourth generation and originally started as a small wine house in 1905.
Pizza classic in second place
You've probably heard of this pizzeria (at least if you've read Elizabeth Gilbert's "Eat Pray Love"): L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele in Naples, Italy, the birthplace of pizza. The small, traditional restaurant was founded in 1870 and is best known for its Napoletana, Margherita and Marinara pizzas. By the way: There is also an offshoot of the famous pizzeria in Berlin in the Schöneberg district.

Three German restaurants in the ranking
The ranking of the most legendary restaurants in the world continues with a German restaurant classic that is known far beyond the Bavarian border and has expanded not only to the German capital, but even to Australia: the Munich Hofbräuhaus. The oldie among the ranked restaurants has been around since 1589. The house's famous specialty: pork knuckle. There is also the classic white sausage, cheese spaetzle, Bavarian pretzels and many other classics from the southern German state.

In addition to the Munich Hofbräuhaus, two other traditional German restaurants rank in the top 100. In 34th place is the Kölner Früh am Dom with its famous sauerbraten and its specialty “Heaven and Earth” (blood sausage with mashed potatoes). A little further down the list, at number 53, is NürnbergsBratwursthäusle. This is even older than the Munich Hofbräuhaus: the legendary restaurant has existed since 1312 and, of course, serves the Nuremberg bratwurst.
