The AFL wildcard race took a decisive turn as Collingwood brought Carlton back down to earth with a commanding 90-69 victory at the MCG. For any team dreaming of a wildcard spot, Collingwood remains the ultimate gatekeeper.
Under interim coach Josh Fraser, the Blues had shown renewed energy and belief. But against their oldest rival, old habits resurfaced. The Magpies bullied Carlton at the contest, suffocated their ball movement, and exposed the gap between a contender and a pretender.
