Intel is planning a custom Panther Lake processor 2026

Intel announced yesterday that it is developing an entire “portable gaming platform” powered by its new Panther Lake processors, entering an increasingly competitive field. Qualcomm is hinting at the possibility of Windows gaming laptops at the Game Developers Conference in March, while AMD's new Strix Halo processors could lead to more powerful laptops.

According to IGN and TechCrunch, sources say Intel plans to compete by developing a custom “variant or variants” of the Intel Core G3 exclusively for laptops that could outperform the Arc B390 GPU in the processors it just announced. IGN reports that using the new 18A process, Intel can cut different core sections and "tailor processors to deliver better GPU performance where you need it".

As for specific details on the gaming platform, we'll have to wait. According to Intel's Dan Rogers, the company will have "more news to share from our hardware and software partners later this year". The Intel-based MSI Claw showed significant improvement when switching to Lunar Lake, and we hope the new platform continues this positive trend.

Intel's move to enter the gaming laptop market with a custom solution shows its commitment to compete in a field dominated by other big players. The development of a special variant of Intel Core G3 for gaming laptops indicates that the company recognizes the importance of performance and energy efficiency in these devices. The ability to adjust processors to deliver better GPU performance is critical to delivering a high-quality gaming experience.

This announcement comes at a time when the gaming laptop market is growing rapidly, with consumers looking for devices that can deliver the same performance as traditional consoles, but with the convenience of portability. Intel, with its experience and know-how, has the ability to offer solutions that not only compete with but also exceed consumer expectations.

Collaboration with other hardware and software manufacturers will be critical to the success of the new platform. Intel has already proven its ability to work with other companies to develop innovative products, and this new initiative looks to be no exception. The wait for more details from Intel partners is long as the market waits to see how this new platform will evolve.

All in all, Intel's announcement of the development of a custom mobile gaming platform is an exciting development for the market. With the promise of better performance and support from top partners, Intel looks poised to take a major step forward in the field of gaming laptops.
