Thomas Tuchel believes England will face an Argentina team fuelled by history in their World Cup semi-final in Atlanta on Wednesday. The England manager acknowledged the deep emotional and historical weight Argentina carries into this clash, emphasizing that his squad is fully prepared for the intensity ahead.
Historic Rivalry and Key Matches
This marks the sixth meeting between the nations at the World Cup, with three of the previous encounters occurring after the Falklands War of 1982. The most infamous was the 1986 quarter-final, where Diego Maradona scored his "Hand of God" goal, leading Argentina to a 2-1 victory en route to the title. In 1998, Argentina won on penalties in the last 16 after David Beckham was sent off, but Beckham gained revenge in 2002 with a penalty in a 1-0 group-stage win. England also triumphed 3-1 in 1962 and 1-0 in 1966, when they became champions.
