We saw this decorative privacy screen at an amusement park and decided we wanted to make a version with PVC pipes.
The Disney version is actually a single piece of molded PVC designed to look like individual cut pieces.
We bought several PVC pipes and got to work!
Steps to make a privacy screen with PVC pipes:
Step 1: Sand and cut the PVC

The entire PVC pipe was sanded before cutting to give it a little tooth for better grip when the adhesive was applied as well as when spray painted. I turned my DeWalt sander upside down for hands-free sanding.
We cut the PVC pieces with the miter saw, which proved to be a challenge when the pieces were released. One reader suggested that we could have moved the fence closer to the blade to help with this problem. The individual pieces were cut 1-3/16″ wide. The cut pieces were also sanded after cutting. Shorter lengths of PVC were cut with a portable band saw when they were too short to safely cut on the miter saw.
We also cut the frame which measures 35″ wide by 45″ high. The frame was assembled with (2) 1″ elbows and (2) 1″ Tees.
Step 2: Assembly

We mounted the project on a piece of insulation so it wouldn't stick to the table. We got this far and realized we needed a lot more PVC pieces, back to the store!
We use construction adhesive instead of PVC glue for assembly. There has been much discussion about the use of construction adhesive versus PVC glue.
Due to the smooth surface of PVC, its adhesive will soon loosen due to heat and cold. Even PVC glue although "smelly" actually melts the PVC. It would have been a better option. Even glue after a while will deteriorate in the sun, but not so quickly. The PVC pipe itself will crumble and become very brittle under the sun. so don't dare hit it with a lawn mower or weed whacker. Of course, it can be repaired, but once the exterior frame is gone, it will be time for a new day of projects. "That's good."
What do you think? Good advice?

Note: This has been in use for six months. It seems to be holding strong even in our extremely hot Florida climate up to this point. Let's see how it continues to resist.
We found that work went a little faster when we worked independently instead of working together. I wasn't going to lie, this was a tedious amount of work!
After assembly, we took it outside and spray painted it with paint designed for plastic.
Step 3: Install

For each leg of the privacy screen, we place two pieces of truss side by side on the ground.
Once in place, you can see that the screen acts more as a camouflage piece. You can see the trash cans behind him, but you really don't. From the street, it appears as an interesting piece of courtyard art.
