PVC Pipe Holder for Bicycles, we recently bought two bicycles and instead of simply throwing the bicycles in the truck bed and causing them to get scratched, we built a Rack (Support) with PVC pipes. In this way we can store our bicycles in a more orderly and clean way. Below we show you how we did it...
Step 1: Materials and tools

- Four 10 3/4″ PVC pipes
- 6 3/4″ elbows
- 18 3/4″ T Connectors
- Cutting saw
- PVC glue
- Mallet (optional)
Step 2: Cut the pieces

The first step is to measure and cut all the PVC pipes. I have a 1996 Toyota Tacoma and I built the frame to fit my truck. If you have a different truck, you will want to measure your truck and cut the pipes accordingly to fit the bed of your truck.
Even though we only have two bikes, I wanted to build a rack that fits four bikes, but my truck is too narrow, so I settled for three. The pipes I needed are:
- 12 10″ Tubes
- 6 12″ Tubes
- 6 6″ Tubes
- 9 2″ Tubes
Use a saw to cut the pipes very well and be sure to wear safety glasses as cutting debris can fly. Also be very careful when cutting the 2″ pipes.
Step 3: Step 1 Assembly

I started putting the pipes together without using any glue first to make sure the final product fits the measurements I want. Since I needed to take it apart later to glue it in, I didn't push the pipes all the way into the Tees/Elbows. This made the shelf a little larger at this point. Be sure to keep this in mind when attempting to dry install.
The first pieces to build are three horizontal pieces. They were built with:
- 2 Elbows
- 4 T-connectors
- 3 2″ Tubes
- 2 10″ Tubes
Step 4: Step 2 Assembly

Now we build the vertical pieces where the bicycle tires will go. They are very simple and are made of:
- 1 12″ Pipe
- 1 10″ pipe
- 1 T-connector
Step 5: Step 3 Assembly

The face of the shelf is assembled using the pieces from the previous two steps. The image is shown upside down. The pieces I used are:
- 2 horizontal pieces from step 1
- 6 Vertical Pieces from Step 2
Step 6: Step 4 Assembly

Now we put the legs of the shelf together. With the shelf face still facing down, instead place 6 of the 10″ pipes into the T-Connectors, as shown in the picture.
Step 7: Step 5 Assembly

Attach the remaining horizontal piece from step 1, and now we're ready to see if it fits on the truck bed.
Step 8: Use Glue

Bring it to your truck and make sure it fits. If not, you may need to adjust the length of the pipes.
If everything fits correctly, separate the grid and glue the pieces together with PVC glues. If you use regular PVC glues (the clear stuff) you will first want to prepare the joints with a PVC primer. Reassembly will be much easier if you use a rubber mallet.
Step 9: Completed!

This is what the rack looks like in my truck with bikes on it. I use ratchet straps to secure the bikes so they don't move when I ride on the highway. You can also move the stand to any space and use it wherever you need it most or convenient. Thank you for your visit!
