GeForce RTX 5050: Announced with 2560 CUDA Cores and Priced at $249 2026

Nvidia has gone ahead with the announcement of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5050 for desktops, with the card already up on the company's pre-order page. Its release will take place in the second half of July.

The new RTX050 is based on the GB208 chip and comes with 2560 CUDA cores for video and graphics processing. It has 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM at 128-bit and not GDDR7 that we have in the larger models. The strange thing is, however, that the version for laptops comes with GDDR7, which is quite faster.

It also has 5th gen Tensor cores and 4th gen RT cores like other 50 series cards. This means we have DLSS 4 support, which generates multiple frames, for a smoother experience.

The RTX 5050 is clocked at 2.31GHz, while it can reach up to 2.57GHz if needed. Other features include 3x DisplayPort 2.1b, a 9th generation NVENC encoder and 6th generation NVDEC decoder. The card runs at 130W of current and accepts an 8-pin cable, while it can reach up to 300W via PCIe Gen 5.

In the presentation the company compared the performance of the card with the 3050, and not the RTX 4050, which shows that the card is not what the public would like. In particular, it shows a 60% performance increase compared to the 3050, which is two generations behind, which in itself is not a terrible thing, especially when this is achieved through DLSS 4. In relation to the RTX 40 series, it shows almost the same performance as an RTX 4060, which was announced 2 years ago.

Nvidia's announcements this year are not what we expected from the company. It relies more on DLSS 4 to increase performance rather than the actual performance increase. It doesn't seem like a particularly good upgrade, especially from the RTX40 series. Yes DLSS 4 is a good feature, but the quality of the graphics it produces is nowhere near the same detail as native game playback.
