The smaller Fairphone 6 has exchangeable accessories and software support for 8 years 2026

Fairphone announced its new repairable smartphone, the Fairphone 6, almost two years after its last upgrade.

The new model is smaller and 9% lighter than its predecessor, but includes a larger 4,415mAh battery that can be easily replaced by removing only seven screws, and which gives the smartphone autonomy that reaches 53 hours on a full charge. The Fairphone 6 is also more modular than previous versions, with new accessories such as a card holder and ring that can be attached to the back of the phone.

The new smartphone is available now through the company's online store and other European retailers at a price of €599. Available in black, green and white.

It also has a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage expandable up to 2TB using an SDXC card. It also has a 6.31-inch LTPO OLED display, slightly smaller than the Fairphone 5's 6.46-inch display, but with a refresh rate increased from 90Hz to 120Hz.

On the back, you'll find a 50MP main camera and a 13MP ultra-wide camera, while on the front there's a 32MP hole-punch camera for selfies and video calling. The presence of this particular camera is a significant downgrade from the Fairphone 5, which used 50MP sensors on all three of its cameras.

The physical design of the Fairphone 6 is similar to the previous model, although the lenses on the back are no longer in a small protrusion but sit directly on the back panel. The panel is now more modular, allowing the lower part to be removed using just two screws and replaced with alternatives that add more functionality, such as a card wallet or a finger loop for a more secure one-handed hold of the phone.

Expectedly the ability to repair the mobile by the user himself is still a priority for Fairphone, which is why the new model retains the same modular design of the previous versions. The hinged side allows you to access and change 12 different components – including the display, battery and USB port – using just a standard screwdriver instead of specialist tools.

To further extend the life of the Fairphone 6, the company includes a five-year warranty and promises eight years of software support until 2033. However, the downside of not everything inside the phone being glued into place and hermetically sealed is that the Fairphone 6 still has a limited IP55 certification for dust and water resistance.

Besides the performance improvements and new modular accessories, Fairphone seems to be on a steady course with its latest smartphone, but introduces an additional new feature on the software side: Fairphone Moments. It's activated via a physical switch on the side of the phone and allows you to "switch between a full-featured smartphone and a minimalist ambient experience"
