The fifth set was a tense affair, with both players holding serve until the tiebreak. Shelton, who had lost nine consecutive games earlier in the match, found his rhythm when it mattered most, sealing the win with a forehand winner.
The Turning Point: Shelton's Mental Fortitude
Shelton's ability to stay calm under pressure was the key to his victory. Despite facing a two-time Grand Slam champion, the young American never wavered. His serve, which reached speeds of 140 mph, was a crucial weapon throughout the match.
"I just kept believing in myself," Shelton said after the match. "I knew that if I stayed focused and played my game, I could win. This is the biggest moment of my career."
Alcaraz's Struggles Under Pressure
Alcaraz, who entered the tournament as the defending champion, struggled with consistency. His unforced error count was high, and he seemed to lose focus during crucial moments. The lack of match play this season was evident, as he appeared fatigued in the latter stages of the match.
