What are the Best Solar Outdoor Security Lights with Motion Sensors?
1. HMCITY: Best overall
Hmcity Solar Lights Outdoor offer enhanced security with a PIR Motion Inductor featuring three lighting modes. The High Efficient Solar Panel, utilizing monocrystalline silicon cells, achieves a 20.5% conversion rate, providing 15% more electricity than comparable products.
With 120 upgraded LEDs and a 270° wide lighting angle, the lights ensure a broader coverage of up to 30㎡. Built with IP65 waterproof technology, the durable lights are resistant to weather conditions. Wireless and easy to install, they eliminate the need for electric wires, offering a convenient lighting solution for various settings.
Our Helpful Review
Living in rural area, I needed affordable, portable, and controllable light for driveway and shed. These are easily mounted anywhere, light is sufficient but not polluting the skies or stabbing the eyes, and no switch or wiring needed. Per directions, I allowed them to fully charge then mounted one on the side of the house near driveway and the other on the side of the shed. The lights are designed to point downward, which I like, so I mounted them about 8 feet from ground.
Motion sensing is adequate, but not excessive enough to cause my neighbors or their dogs to trigger light. The lights face East, but the panels are sensitive enough to fully charge. Since the control button is on the back of the unit, I am considering mounting these with hooks so they can be easily removed for mode change. I cannot give 5 stars without knowing the service life, but given the technology and the reasonable price, I can heartily recommend these lights.
2. AOOTEK: Best Solar powered
Aootek is a versatile outdoor security light with three optional modes to suit various needs: Security Light Mode activates on motion at night for 15 seconds; Permanent On All Night Mode keeps the light illuminated throughout the night; Smart Brightness Control Mode enhances brightness when motion is detected.
Equipped with a sensitive PIR Motion Inductor, Aootek detects movement up to 26 feet within a 120-degree angle. The light features a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, high-efficiency LED step lights, a 20.5% conversion rate solar panel, and is waterproof (IP65) and heatproof, ideal for outdoor use in diverse weather conditions.

They work the way they're supposed to work. Easy to configure (but you want to make sure you have the mode set the way you want it before you attach them to the wall, because you'd have to take them off to change it as the button is recessed on the back of the light). Easy to attach, but I found the screw heads a little small. They will push through the mounting holes if you tighten them a little too much.
The sensors react well to motion and reliably illuminate if animals or persons walk into their field which seems very good to me. They are bright enough to illuminate their area of coverage so a person can see their surroundings or a homeowner could see the person. They are not extremely bright, but are much better than the dim old school solar lights were. This tech is getting better and better.
3. BAXIA TECHNOLOGY: Best for House
BAXIA Technology's Solar Outdoor Lights offer optimal security with PIR motion detection within 10-16ft and a 120° angle. The ultra-bright LEDs provide ample illumination for various outdoor spaces, ensuring safety.

I have ordered these several times over several years as I keep adding them around my condo building in Chicago. The light is bright, they catch motion for a LONG way away considering their small size and withstand 100’ temps to -30’ temps for years. I have only had to replace a couple through the years. EASY to INSTALL: two screws and done !
4. LEPOWER: Best Wired

Nothing really to complain about here. A 4 inch hole works great with an 18 cubic inch junction box, and then this mounts right to it with one screw in the middle of the supplied bracket. Motion sensor seems to work well and the light is plenty bright.
Can't complain about the price of these things these days. Sure you can't really replace the bulbs, but maybe someday in a few years you just replace the whole thing. It's easy and cheap, so whatever. Here's a simple tip: If your light is turning on during the day, it might be in test mode because the timing knob is dialed all the way back. Adjust it to around 30 seconds for proper functioning.
5. TUFFENOUGH: Best Brightness for Yard
Tuffenough Solar Outdoor Lights with 2500LM and 210 LEDs offer versatile lighting options. The remote control features 3 modes: Strong light sensor, Dim light sensor, and Strong long light. The lights boast 210 super bright LEDs, providing 2500lm 6500K high brightness and efficient heat dissipation.
Featuring a wide-angle illumination and PIR motion inductor, they detect up to 270° with a 26 feet sensing distance. With a long working time, IP65 waterproof design, and wireless installation, these lights are perfect for illuminating outdoor spaces.

I bought these two months ago and they have worked very well. Installation was easy, though as others have noted the adjustability is a bit limited, so it's a good idea to test fit where/how you'd mount before actually drilling holes. In the location I'm using, there's a tradeoff between maximizing light coverage area and exposure to sunlight for recharging.
These came with a remote control, mainly only necessary when changing modes if the unit is mounted out of reach--there are physical buttons on the lights you can use instead. The instructions were not helpful but I was able to "decode" what the illustrations on the remote meant after trial/error, and found the modes to be:
- Always off
- Always on/bright (auto-off in daylight)
- Always on/dim, goes bright when motion detected (auto off in daylight)
- Motion activated only, bright
I have not tested whether there's enough solar recharge daily to support any of the always on modes, but based on the use of energy efficient LED's I'd think they should be able to fully recharge with no problems.
The motion detection is excellent and has impressive range. I have two dogs that are constantly going in/out in the evening and these kick on immediately when they pass by. I would point out, though, that if using the motion-activated only mode, they only stay on for about 10 seconds after motion. That saves energy, but seems a bit short to me.
Overall they do a very good job, have held up well, and I'm especially impressed by how affordably they're priced.
6. CLAONER: Widest Angle
CLAONER Solar Lights Outdoor offer upgraded features with 128 LEDs, providing a 270° wide-angle illumination, 200% broader than competitors. The rechargeable battery ensures extended lighting, while enhanced PIR motion detection covers 12-20 feet with a 120° angle.
The lights offer three modes, catering to various needs. Easy installation options and IP65 waterproofing make them durable in any weather. These eco-friendly lights, powered by solar panels, illuminate your outdoor spaces effectively, making them ideal for gardens, yards, driveways, and more.

I purchased several different brands and these came out the top winner. The installation was a snap – no wires, no fuss. The brightness is surprisingly impressive for solar-powered lights. You can adjust how bright you want them to be. I have three dogs…they need to go potty several times a night. With the time change..these turn on by about 6 pm.
They last all night because they are also motion detectors. I know exactly where my beasts are in the yard by what light is on…it is hysterical to watch lights go on and off by where they are located. I liked them so well I purchased a second set for the outside of the fence..can never have too much light 😁.
7. iTHIRD: Best for Garage
iThird Solar Lights Outdoor Motion Sensor offers versatile lighting with three modes. Its glass lamination solar panels provide better charging efficiency and a longer lifespan compared to PET solar panels.
This energy-saving outdoor light operates on solar power, saving up to $1500 over its lifespan. With a waterproof design and durable materials, it withstands various weather conditions. The wireless installation makes it suitable for diverse applications, including the garage, garden, porch, and more, ensuring bright and secure illumination all night long.

These work great. I put on gutters near walkways and set them on motion detecting. Creates a nice light to see to go out to work in mornings. We've purchased more after buying them the first time. I also have them where they get several hours of sunlight a day. The first ones lasted 3 years.
8. BEAMS MB530: Best for Steps
[NOT SOLAR] Introducing the Beams MB530, a versatile wireless motion-sensing LED light for indoor/outdoor use. Powered by batteries, it requires no wires, offering flexibility in placement.
The built-in light sensor conserves energy with auto shut-off after 20 or 60 seconds. A single set of batteries allows for approximately 5000 activations, covering over 120 square feet per fixture. With a 12-foot motion detection range, balanced LED light, and weatherproof design, it's an ideal solution for various spaces, from hallways to bathrooms.

These are the best stair lights. Battery life lasts a long time since they are triggered with motion so they don't stay on all night. We used them on stairs outside and inside and in closets. I have some that are over 5 years old and they are still going strong.

This camera is the exception among many. It was easy to install, so I bought a 2nd. The first one in the garage took about 25 minutes mostly because the old light didn’t want to come down and I had to get a dremel out. The second I put in my pond took about 15. I”m not an electrician but I have wired some outlets and fans. It’s 3 wires you will figure it out. Setup was easy after it was installed.
The video is great. The motion detection is great. You can adjust it to fit your space. I have a walking path right by the driveway and I’ve had two false alarms in a month. Out back I have a hot tub. I can sit in the hot tub and it doesn’t go off unless I stand up or make some other movement. These things are awesome. I would buy more but my house is covered.
10. ALOFTSUN: Best for Pathways
The AloftSun Solar Motion Sensor Lights features 30 LEDs for exceptional brightness and a wide illumination range. These solar spotlights include a PIR sensor with a 120° detection angle and 33ft range, activated by human, animal, or vehicle movement.
Offering auto on/off and three lighting modes, they adapt to your needs. With a high-efficiency solar panel and 2200mAh battery, these lights boast a 21.5% conversion rate, ensuring a longer runtime. IP68 waterproof and durable, they promise over 40000 hours of reliable performance. Choose ground insertion or wall mounting for easy installation. Quality is guaranteed with certifications like CE and RoHS.

These spot lights charge during the day and light up at night. They work very well. I bought them to deter coyotes. I have them set to light up for 1-minute after detecting movement. The sensitivity is good and we have not seen any coyotes after setting them out. We do see other critters, though. Overall, I am happy with these lights.
How to choose a Solar Outdoor Security Lights with Motion Sensor
When choosing a solar outdoor light with a motion sensor, there are several factors to consider to ensure you select the right one for your needs. Here are some key points to keep in mind.
Brightness Requirements
Consider the level of illumination and coverage you need. Different solar motion sensor lights offer varying levels of brightness, so assess the specific areas you want to light up and choose a light that can provide adequate brightness for those areas.
Detection Range and Angle
Pay attention to the light's detection range and angle. A wider range and angle will allow the light to detect motion from a greater distance and a broader area, providing more comprehensive security coverage for your outdoor space.
Battery Life and Charging Time
Since solar lights rely on sunlight to charge their batteries, it's important to consider the light's battery life and charging time. Choose a light with a battery that can provide sufficient power throughout the night and a solar panel that can effectively charge the battery, especially during shorter winter days.
Durability and Weather Resistance
Outdoor lights are exposed to the elements, so it's essential to select a light that is durable and weather-resistant. Look for lights made of high-quality materials that can withstand rain, snow, and extreme temperatures.
Additional Features
Some solar motion sensor lights come with extra features such as adjustable settings, multiple lighting modes, and remote control. Consider whether these features are important to you and if they would enhance the light's performance and convenience.
By taking these factors into account, you can choose a solar outdoor light with a motion sensor that meets your specific requirements for brightness, coverage, reliability, and additional features.
