When it comes to securing your property, finding the best PoE security camera system can make all the difference.
Over the years, I’ve seen how Power over Ethernet (PoE) cameras not only simplify installation but also provide reliable and uninterrupted power and data through a single cable. This setup is ideal for anyone who wants a hassle-free installation without compromising on security and surveillance quality.
With a PoE camera system, you’re getting high-definition video quality and seamless remote access, allowing you to monitor your property 24/7 from anywhere in the world. Whether you're securing a home, business, or a larger property, a PoE security camera system ensures clear, high-quality footage that’s often superior to wireless alternatives. Plus, since the system doesn’t rely on Wi-Fi, it's immune to signal interference—a significant advantage if you want reliable, continuous monitoring.
In my experience, the top PoE camera systems also offer essential features like night vision, motion detection, and even two-way audio, enhancing both security and convenience. Whether you’re new to security setups or a seasoned pro, choosing the right PoE security camera system can provide peace of mind and robust protection.
When choosing a PoE security camera system, various crucial factors must be taken into account. This includes aspects like camera resolution, field of view, night vision capabilities, and weatherproofing. In this guide, I will outline these key features and walk you through some of the best options on the market, focusing on systems that offer a balance of durability, ease of use, and advanced functionality to keep you covered.
What is a POE Security Camera System?
A Power over Ethernet (PoE) security camera system streamlines installation and upkeep by delivering both power and data via a single Ethernet cable. This eliminates the hassle of dealing with multiple cables and adapters.

OUR REVIEW
Finally, a camera system that ticks all the boxes.
After trying out various brands, the REOLINK Smart 5MP 8CH Home Security Camera System truly stands out in terms of quality, price, setup, and usability. Here's why it's a winner for me:
Quality
The cameras boast sturdy construction, though I wish the plastic inside the metal mounting base was more robust. Setting up the dome cameras was a breeze, thanks to the snap-on retainer feature that keeps them securely in place.
Video quality is top-notch for the price, delivering crisp images with a perfect viewing angle. While there's some graininess when fully zoomed in, it's still satisfactory. Night vision is impressive, illuminating the entire area without any dark spots. Plus, recording at 25 FPS ensures smooth playback, especially for moving objects. The sound quality is excellent, capturing audio with precision.
NVR
The user-friendly software and compact, quiet NVR make monitoring a breeze. With a 2TB HDD included, storage is sufficient, but you can always upgrade if needed. I recommend using Western Digital Purple drives for optimal performance.
Remote Viewing
Setting up remote viewing via the Reolink app is a cinch with the QR code on the DVR. Just ensure a stable internet connection for smooth operation, especially at higher resolutions.
Setup
The POE system offers plug-and-play convenience, though using the waterproof lid with the provided cable requires some extra effort. Despite this minor inconvenience, REOLINK deserves praise for providing all the necessary materials.
Final Thoughts
The REOLINK Smart RLK8-520D4 offers everything you need for comprehensive surveillance. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable camera setup.
2. REOLINK 4K RLK16-800B8 - Best Value
CHECK PRICE: REOLINK (Discount) AMAZON
The REOLINK 4K Security Camera System (RLK16-800B8) offers 8MP resolution, providing sharp day and night video clarity. Features include person/vehicle detection, remote access/playback via the Reolink app, easy PoE setup, and continuous 24/7 recording with a pre-installed 4TB HDD (expandable up to 6TB).
- Pros: 4K Ultra HD, Smart Detection, Remote Access.
- Con: Limited facial detail for identifying strangers.
Our helpful review
No manual included in the box, but you don't need one.
Setup is easy and the menu settings are self explanatory. Cameras auto detected about 20 seconds after plugging in the ethernet cable. Cameras are easy to rename from "Camera1" to "Front Yard."
PROS
- Daytime image quality is good, 4k quality is nowhere near what you would see in a 4K movie on a 4K TV.
- Nighttime image quality is better than expected. The Infrared Leds really light up the area.
- To save a segment of the recordings is very easy. Click the scissors icon and save to USB stick.
- The Smart Detection seems to work pretty well.
CONS
- You're not going to read license tags on moving cars. Image blur is too great.
- Still get occasional false motion detection. I have "no detection areas" where plant or tree movement could affect detection.
- You're not going to be able to identify a stranger for law enforcement. Just not enough facial detail.
- Image detail is crunchy like it's been over sharpened.
- The built-in fan is noisy. With a sound meter, the room where the NVR is located, the ambient sound level is 41db. Six inches away from the front panel of the NVR the sound level is 54db. That's louder than a whisper.
Exporting to the USB stick is only Fat32 which limits the size to less than 4gb. I format most of my USB sticks to Exfat which does not work with the NVR. Had to reformat a stick to Fat32 just for the NVR. Overall super solid system, easy to setup and handle.

Our helpful review
We got this system after someone tried to steal the Air Conditioner beside the house. The hardest part was pulling the cable thru the attic. I had to use a few custom length cables for cameras further away than the supplied cables would reach. All in all they work great. I had to adjust the resolution on most of the Cameras away from 4K because it used up the memory too fast.
The Motion detection works but is quite annoying because it triggers on everything, even a spider, so I disabled that feature. When I connected everything and turned it on it basically set itself up. I would buy it again. A few months in and everything is working great.

My wife and I were recently introduced to Reolink camera systems and are now major fans. The camera quality is phenomenal and the NVR system is easy to set up. The cords that were included with the kit were plenty long enough. 10/10 would and have recommended this system.
Even the night vision has great range. Our previous system had very low quality at night and even during the day. You could tell a person was there but not really who it was. With Reolink, you can see every feature and even use the two way voice communication to speak with them.

I normally don’t write reviews. But after 3 years of using this system I am ready. First, the cameras are unbelievably clear. You can zoom in and count the pimps on the neighbors kid’s face about 30’ away. I have the 4 camera setup. I should’ve gotten the 8. Customer service through the app is great! The app is a little hard to navigate but “Jar” was great. He helped me reboot the system & reconfigure my app.
I can only speak to the system I bought 3 years ago. My cameras did not differentiate between human & animal. So any movement & you’ll get a notification. Again for my system I have to update it using a desktop & a usb drive. Also, my system interface on the DVR is cumbersome. Setup is quite tedious. But like I said, Jar from customer service was a great help. Oh & we used the footage in court for an incident, and we won.

6. SWANN Cat5e NVR 4K - Best Smart Features
Swann's 8-channel Home Security Camera System delivers 4K Ultra HD with color night vision, a 2TB HDD, and advanced analytics like face recognition. The PoE system ensures straightforward setup, and the Swann Security app allows remote access.
- Pros: Exceptional clarity, continuous recording, and robust privacy features.
- Cons: Moisture-related issues affecting video quality.
Our helpful review
Add On cam to a Swann NVR-8580. I Recently seeded an area and needed proof that a neighbor's outside cat was doing damage to my property. I suspected one cat but there were also two other cats marking behind it. After capturing footage, we addressed the issue with the cat owner #1 and everything has since been resolved.
The Camera - Good add on. No issues with moisture. I initially had problems with the motion detection, you may need to adjust the NVR settings and phone app settings to check your camera(s) sensitivity and set up modes.

Learn ho to use the system to maximize your experience! You can easily view the whole clip or ONLY motion activity. LOVE THE SYSTEM ☺️.
Here is my take on this security camera system.
The good:
- System software is very user friendly.
- BEST quality OUT THERE, material appears to be from top of the line.
- So many settings for your everyday needs.
The bad (What it needs to , to be a 5 stars product)
- Pack duration needs to be reduced, current (30, 45 or 60 minutes it's too long) !!!!!
- System & cameras will need to be updated manually (USB). System will claim is up-to-date but it's NOT.
- I had to upgrade to a 4TB ssd to optimize performance. (Low temps, super fast data processing).
- System has no internal fan, (with SSD upgrade, temps will be legit cold) .
- RJ45 cables HAVE NO labels : it appears they are CAT5 🤦🏿♂️ (cheap made), I upgraded to cat6.
After those upgrades: system is beyond incredible. Fast, reliable and it just perform better. There is no lag or buffer.

This Lorex camera system was purchased to monitor security and processes at a wastewater treatment plant. The system replaced an older CCTV system.
We are very impressed with the resolution of the camera images and the low-light capabilities. We have experienced no interference or ghosting on the camera images. 10. Ring Stick Up Cam Elite - Best Indoor Camera
The Ring Stick Up Cam Elite is a Power over Ethernet (PoE) HD security camera that provides reliable, nonstop power. With two-way talk, night vision, and Alexa integration, it offers versatile home monitoring. The camera is suitable for indoor or outdoor use, with easy placement options.
- Pros: PoE for continuous power and a wide field of view.
- Cons: Relatively high price.
Our helpful review
This is the first cam I should've bought and not wasted time with the stick up cam wired one. Sure it's the more expensive one but you get what you pay for.
The elite version has slightly upgraded hardware and POE (power over ethernet). The POE works awesome and bringing up live view is super fast (even faster if you use rapid ring app but they really should rather focus on the main ring app to make that the same speed!). I also really love the mount it comes with and this should be standard with the stick up cam wired one.
One of the best reasons to get the elite is for the much wider field of view compared to the stick up cam wired/battery version. Another is the fact that you can do the motion trigger zones. With the stick up cam wired/battery you cannot select specific areas and have to rely on turning off 3 sensors that you cannot customize in any way. That alone was terrible. I like to be able to select specific areas to monitor instead of the entire line of view.
The view quality is really clear, sharp and vivid; just what you need for a nice 1080p video/liveview. Another area that the elite version rocks in is the color night vision. Only the in door cam and elite have the color night vision. I really am not sure who is designing these cameras and only giving it to these models.
I had zero issues setting up the elite and it's been running flawless. The motion triggers are ultra fast and super nice. I also like the fact that you can select people only mode if you want to have it trigger on humans only. I rather not mess with that feature and leave the zones to do their job. And oh, get the black color. It is super sleek looking and less visible at night.

11. ZOWIETEK Pro PTZ Camera NDI HX 30X - Best for Livestreaming
The zowietek Pro PTZ Camera NDI | HX 30X offers a high-definition image with a 1920x1080 resolution and 60 fps frame rate. Its leading auto-focus technology ensures fast and stable focusing, while low noise and high SNR contribute to clear video.
The camera supports multiple video outputs (HDMI, 3G-SDI, LAN) and operates quietly with precise movements. One con is reported in customer reviews, mentioning potential image quality issues at maximum zoom.
- Pros: High-definition image with leading auto-focus technology, Multiple video outputs for versatile connectivity.
- Cons: Potential image quality issues at maximum zoom.
Our helpful review
For now, and without having used it intensively, it seems very promising. Checking the camera after fixed installation in a church:
I was pleasantly surprised by the precision of the PTZ motors. They are also very quiet. The optics give a very good zoom. Focusing is very fast although, if there is not much light, it tends to focus and defocus only every five or six seconds.
What I liked most was the behavior of the NDI-HX technology in this camera, with negligible latency despite being on a network shared with other services (including surveillance services) of the church. This camera has a quite good quality-price ratio. I'm already thinking about the next three units I'm going to buy.

12. Amcrest 5MP Turret POE Camera - Best Ultra HD
The Amcrest 5MP Turret POE Camera is a high-performance outdoor IP camera with a 5-megapixel resolution and a wide 103° viewing angle. It features a built-in mic for one-way audio and is powered by Power Over Ethernet (POE) for easy installation.

The camera is built to withstand any weather conditions and has excellent low-light performance with night-vision up to 98 feet. It also offers various storage options, including Amcrest Cloud remote video storage and MicroSD card support up to 256GB.
Our Helpful Review
The camera can be powered either through Power over Ethernet (PoE) or regular Ethernet with a separate power cord.
Using PoE, you only need to drill a small hole for the Cat6 cable and crimp the RJ45 Ethernet connector yourself, combining power and data in one cable. This means you don't have to damage your home to install the cameras. I recommend getting a crimping tool for running Ethernet cables and you can customize the cable length as needed. With PoE, the camera is always powered, allowing it to capture recorded video before motion starts without the need for battery changes.
The camera setup is straightforward as it can be auto-detected by most software. You can use a QR code or serial number to configure it, but remember that these are on the tag attached to the cord, not the camera body. I found the Amcrest View Pro software easy to configure on my Android phone, and I also tried the demo version of Blue Iris on my Windows 10 PC.
It is also compatible with Synology NAS home cloud server using Surveillance Station software, providing ample file storage capacity. Setting up motion detection was simple, and I could easily adjust it to ignore certain areas of the frame to minimize false alarms caused by wind or squirrels. The software offers numerous features that I am still exploring.
13. Anpviz 4MP PoE IP Turret Camera - Best with Microphone/Audio
The Anpviz 4MP PoE IP Turret Camera is a high-definition security camera that offers exceptional detail for facial recognition and license plate identification.
It utilizes Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology, allowing it to receive power and data through existing LAN cabling, eliminating the need for a separate power cable and reducing installation costs. With dual H.265/H.264 compression, it can store more information using fewer hard drives, resulting in smaller file sizes. It is compatible with Anpviz PoE NVRs and can easily be integrated with third-party software and NAS systems.

The full metal case ensures durability and protection against extreme temperatures, dust, and rain. With a 108° field of view, it can cover a wider area, reducing the need for multiple devices. Our Helpful Review
This Poe security camera offers an excellent price point.
I have installed three of them on my property and have never encountered any issues with picture quality or other aspects. I connected each camera with Ethernet cords and powered them through PoE. The sound quality is good, with one-way audio allowing me to hear what's happening if necessary. The night vision is impressive, comparable to Amcrest cameras but at a lower price point.
These cameras work exceptionally well with Blue Iris software, which provides the features I need. Additionally, you can easily set up these cameras on the "VideoLink" mobile app to view them remotely without any additional cost. Simply scan the code on the camera to set it up in the app. I have been using these ANPVIZ Cameras continuously for three months without any issues. So far, they have been performing excellently.

Our Helpful Review
I am impressed with the color night vision feature of this camera.
I am currently using it with Blue Iris. Although this camera appears to be a knockoff Hikvision, it looks exactly like the expensive model but at a much lower price. The accompanying book states that it is designed to seamlessly connect to a Hikvision NVR, and by using the Hikvision settings in Blue Iris, I was able to get it working.
It is worth noting that this camera has two white LED lights. The brightness of these lights is comparable to that of my headlamp. They provide a faint amount of light to enable color vision at night, which is quite useful. When I walk in front of the camera, the lights brighten up, indicating that they are triggered by motion. Since I live in a rural area with no street lamps or neighbor's floodlights, I am unsure if installing this camera in a location with existing ambient light at night will still activate the LED lights on the front.
I am so pleased with this camera that I am considering purchasing the 180-degree version to replace some of my other cameras. In fact, I might place one of those in this current spot and relocate this camera to a location where a 110-degree view would be more suitable.

It is compatible with various PoE NVRs, including Eversecu, Laview, Hikvision, EZVIZ, GW, Amcrest, Lorex, Dahua, Samsung, and older versions of Dahua. OUR REVIEW
I've got to say, I'm a big fan of these LAVIEW 2K Security Cameras.
As a military vet, security is top priority for me, and with 12 of these babies scattered around my property, I feel like Fort Knox. Night vision? No problemo. It holds its own against pricier models, and if you need more infrared coverage, there are budget-friendly IR spotlights available that do the trick just fine.
Sure, the app and settings have their quirks, but trust me, I've tried a bunch of others, and their issues were way less tolerable. While the instructions aren't overflowing, following the app's lead and tuning into those sound cues will steer you right.
Now, here's the rub: customer support.
It's about as elusive as a unicorn. I've been trying to crack their cloud service puzzle for months, with zilch response. And don't even get me started on their outdated articles and confusing sign-up process. It's like trying to decipher ancient hieroglyphics.
Pros
- Great value
- Easy installation and setup
- Impressive range
- Clear picture quality
- App is fairly user-friendly
- Long wires for flexible installation
- Handy offline notification feature
Cons
- Cloud capabilities are murky at best
- Integration with auto-save programs is a headache
- Each recording setting has its own quirks, but nothing too major.
But overall, these cameras are solid. They do the job without fail, even if their support team leaves much to be desired.
