Build an Amazing Cool Acrylic Skateboard, I had some scrap acrylic that I couldn't do anything else with. I thought it would be cool to have a transparent skateboard, and the end results were great. Now, this isn't going to be a skateboard that stays pristine, but isn't that the point? This thing will end up scratched and twisted, but then it will be even colder.

Step 1: Cut the desired space

I came up with this project after having 3/4 inch acrylic scraps from my acrylic side table build. Skateboard measures approximately 8 3/4 inches wide by 38 inches long. Set the saw blade to 8 3/4 inches and rip a strip.
Next, measure 38 inches and crosscut the strip to 38 inches.

Step 2: Make a stencil and transfer to acrylic

I found a long strip of cardboard that was at least half the width of my skateboard. I made a half template so my skateboard would be symmetrical. Find a way you like to make your template. Me with a round, swept nose that tapers to a round tail.

1. Measure and draw reference marks on the cardboard template to mark where you want the curve to start and stop. Then draw a curve between the two marks.
2. Use an adhesive can draw the curve on the glue.
3. Connect the curve at the tail and nose with a gradual taper.
4. Cut the template with a utility knife.
5. Mark the center line of your board. Align the template with the center line and trace the outline.
6. Flip the template to the other side and repeat.

Step 3: Cut the skateboard shape

I used my band saw and this 3/16 blade to cut the shape of the skateboard. Just cut slowly and stay outside your lines. Now sand the edges even with a belt sander. It doesn't have to be perfectly smooth.

Step 4: A chamfer and sand

Construct a 45-degree chamfer on the bottom of the board all the way around. I used a Palm Router and a chamfer canvas to do this. Be sure to push against the rotation of the blade. Go slow and concentrate on keeping the Router level with the workpiece.

Now sand the edges first with 600 grit and then with 1200 grit sandpaper until it is shaped like glass.

Step 5: Assemble the wheels

I did not measure the distance of the wheels from the ends. I looked up and went with what felt right to me.

1. I measured from the sides to ensure the wheels were centered. Mark the hole locations from the top of the board.
2. Using a drill press is best for this operation. Using a countersink bit, drill 4 holes for each set of truck countersinks in the top of the deck.
3. Place the wheels on the bottom and insert the bolts through the metal bases of the wheels from the top. Place the nut and tighten. Slowly, because you don't want to break the acrylic.
4. Clean with denatured alcohol.

Step 6: Go for a walk!
