Step 1: Choose the design and choose the wood

I used inventor to decide on the design and measurements, this is optional. Overall dimensions are approximately 14″ square by 6′ 6″ tall. The mahogany posts are 3/4″ polished into an L shape and the pine strips are 3/4″ wide and approximately 1/32″ thick. However, the dimensions are not critical and can be modified to fit as desired.

Step 2: Wood Mill

I used a template as shown to cut the strips about 1/320" thick, and held them up to the light to show how the light shines through them. The lower foot of the legs was sharpened with a plane of the hand.

Step 3: Assembly

The 3/4″ x2 1/4″ pine top frame was simple, screwed and glued. And the posts were screwed into the frame from the top. Remember, there is very little stress on a lamp. The strips were glued together with regular wood glue and held in place for about 30 seconds each until they were left alone. However, it might be better to use a faster drying glue. The lamps were removed from an antique lamp and the light was attached by having a piece of wood glued diagonally across the center of the lamp and screwing the light holder into the center of the lamp.

Step 4: Admire

Finally you now have your own decorative lamp made of wood which you can place in your bedroom or any room in the home.
