Do the Best Jobs when Placing Gutters and Baseboards at Home. We always care about the quality of the work that we share with our followers and that is why today we bring you a list of excellent examples to install all types of baseboards, gutters and window and door frames, since the function and dynamics of the installations is similar but with different tools and materials, obviously.

Use a sharp saw blade
You can't cut perfectly with a dull blade, one with too few teeth, or one that is designed to tear. Check that the blade is sharp by cutting a 45-degree miter on a 1x3 or larger piece of oak or other lumber. If the blade cuts smoothly with very little pressure and leaves a clean, almost shiny cut with no burn marks, it is sharp enough. When checking your blade or shopping for a new one, look for one labeled "blade" or "crosscut blade." At 10 inches. Blade must have at least 40 teeth, one 12 inches. Blade at least 60. If the blade is for a sliding miter saw, make sure the teeth have a hook angle of zero to negative five degrees. Teeth with a neutral or negative hook angle are less aggressive and safer for sliding miter saws. Expect to spend at least $50 for a carbide-tipped blade that will perform well and last a long time.

Adjust the cut
Even on perfectly square corners, 45 degree angles will not always give perfect guillotines. Wall corners can be constructed with flange and corner compound, and window and door frames can be raised slightly or recessed back. That's when you have to start playing with the angles to get a tight fit. In most cases, you will be making adjustments as small as a quarter of a degree. If the gap is small (about 1/16 inch), line one side. If the difference is greater, you will have to trim both boards.

Glue and sand for a seamless fit
Here's a trick to make it look cool. Apply a thin coat of wood glue to each piece before assembling them. Use a damp cloth (not damp) to remove excess glue from the joint. Sand over the miter with a small piece of 120-grit sandpaper. Sand across the joint and finish by sanding carefully to the cross-grit sanding marks, moving the paper in both directions. Sanding sawdust is mixed with the glue to fill any small openings. Sanding the miter will also compensate for slight level differences and make the job look more professional.

Burn the corner
If your crown mold has a small gap in the outside corner miter, you can hide it by rubbing the tip of the miter with a screwdriver. The bent fibers will disguise the gap, and the slightly rounded corner will be less likely to be chipped or damaged. The best way to prevent this problem is to cut your outside corner boards about 1 degree sharper than the actual angle.

Adjust at once
Whether you're edging a table like we show here, trimming a window or door, or installing baseboard, it's always best to fit the wood together whenever possible. Start with a piece of mold with a miter cut on it as a test piece. When you have the first miter fitting perfectly, mark the next one. Next, cut and fit the adjoining wood before nailing any of the pieces.

Guess and Test
There are all kinds of ways to find odd angles, but most woodworkers just make a guess and then cut a couple of pieces.test to see how lucky they are. The angle of these two walls appears to be less than 45 degrees. A good guess would be about 30 degrees. Divide 30 by two to arrive at the miter angle and cut a couple of scraps at 15 degrees. There is a gap in the front here, so we need to increase the angle slightly and trim the remains to 16 degrees.

Mark
Holding the fit in place and marking it is always more accurate than measuring, often faster and eliminates errors. This is good advice for other types of carpentry work as well, such as siding, shingling, and sometimes even framing.

Use a heel to cut a back bevel
Cut a back bevel at miter joints that are open in the front but touching at the back. To create a back bevel cut on a standard miter saw, place a pencil under the mold. If you have a compound miter box, tilt the blade a degree or two to cut the back bevel.

Hit the protruding plaster wall
Occasionally window and door jambs end up slightly recessed. Correct minor level differences by either tapping or cutting the drywall along the edge of the jamb. But be careful to avoid going beyond what will be covered by the clipping. If the level difference is greater than approximately 3/16 inch.

Use a Nail Gun for best results
It's hard to beat a wood nail gun, especially if you're not skilled with a hammer. The nail guns allow you to keep the molds in perfect alignment.

Do not nail too close to the ends or edges
Even with an 18 gauge gun, you can split the mold if you're not careful. Avoid nailing less than 3/4 inch from the end of a piece of trim or less than 1/4 in from the edge.

Check before nailing the exterior
You could nail the trim flat to the wall and the rest would look big. But in reality, small variations in the level between the jamb and the wall often interfere. To fix this problem, start by securing the inside edge of the trim, making sure the miter joint is tight. Next, while the miter is still tight, drive a pair of nails through the outside corners at opposite angles to secure it.

Wedge
If there is a small gap between the molding and the wall, do not press the trim to the wall; The miter joint could open. Instead, slide a thin shim between the mold and the wall. Next, nail the outer edge of the trim. If the gap and wedge are visible, fill the crack with caulk before painting.

Nail Gun
Holding the trim in place to mark it by length is faster and more accurate than measuring. But that's not easy to do with long pieces. When you are cutting wood and need to hold a long piece of casing in place while marking the far end, try using the gun by pressing it against the wood. It doesn't take much. If you are putting down 3/8-in. Thick, simply add with a 1 inch. After marking, pull the mold loose.
