For this project I bought a rustic galvanized metal bucket, but you can use any other type of waterproof container. It can be rustic or modern, metal or plastic, bigger or smaller, it's all up to you.

Also, I choose white river rocks to fill the bucket. Other options are black rocks, clear glass stones, colored glass stones, whatever works for you.

The most important thing you need for this project is a clear plastic/acrylic tube. Remember, you need rigid pipe, not flexible. You can find the link to it in the list of tools and materials above.

Next is the water pump. I have a submersible water pump, which is quiet and very easy to install, so I recommend purchasing one for this type of project.

Finally, I found a cool looking faucet or spigot. When you buy one, make sure the end of the hose fits into the plastic tube.

Step 2: Make a hole in the bottom of the bucket

Now, let's get started on this project!

The water pump goes to the bottom of the bucket. To hide the cable, I need to drill a hole in the back of the hub and run the cable through.

I took my cordless drill, attached a 6mm drill bit and drilled that hole easily.

If your pump comes with a plug on the end of the cable, you will have two options: drill a much larger hole in the hub, or cut the cable, and solder it back on later. You decide.

Step 3: Add a jacket to the pump cables

The pump has two exposed wires, black and red without a cover, so I decided to cover them with black shrink tubing. The wires are 46 cm long, but I cut 44 cm of the heat shrink and left 2 cm of the wires exposed, which I will use later.

I covered the wires and used a lighter to shrink all the heat shrink. I think it looks much better now.

This step is optional. You may have another type of pump, so you won't have to do anything with it.

Step 4: Soldering

Once I was done with the cable, I placed the pump on the bottom of the bucket and pulled the cable through the hole.

I added another heat shrink piece to the end of the cabsles, which will protect the exposed cables later.

Next, I stripped the insulation off the black wire just a little more with the wire strippers. Now the wires are ready to solder to the power connector.

First, I soldered the red wire to the shorter tip of the DC power plug, and then I soldered the black wire to the longer tip of the DC power plug.

Finally, I shrunk the short heat shrink piece to insulate the wires connection to the power connector.

Step 5: Drill holes in the rigid acrylic tubing

I bought this clear rigid acrylic tube a year ago, not knowing I would make such an amazing project with it. It has a length of 50 cm and an outer diameter of 20 mm. Maybe a thinner tube could create a better effect, but why not use something I already have in my workshop?

To get the desired effect, I need to drill small holes in the top of the tube. That way, the water can flow easily, first going all the way up and then going down the tube.

So, I drilled 8 holes in total with a 3mm drill bit, making sure they are really close to the top (about 3mm apart) and the same distance apart.

The drilling process created some burrs in the acrylic, which I removed with sandpaper. I hand sanded inside and out as well. This step will help make a strong bond with the glue.

Step 6: Placing the faucet on the acrylic tube

My glue choice is two part epoxy. I mixed the epoxy well and applied a large amount of it into the faucet. The sides of the faucet should not be covered with glue, because there we need to have enough space for the water to come out of the holes.

I placed the tube in the faucet and waited about 10 minutes to dry completely, before moving on to the next step.

Step 7: Placing the acrylic tube on the water pump

The other end of the tube should go above the pump. The pump nozzle is too small for the tube, but I think hot glue will fix this problem.

So, I applied a generous amount of hot glue around the nozzle and tied off the tube while the glue was still hot. I then applied hot glue to the outside as well. In this way, I will make a strong connection between the tube and the pump nozzle, and the water will not leak, which is very important.

Step 8: Adding Natural River Rocks to the Cube

Before adding the rocks, I placed the tube in the center of the cube.

I bought about 20kg of natural river rocks, which is enough for this big bucket. Holding the tube with one hand, I began piling the rocks into the bucket with the other hand. The rocks keep everything in place and give the project character.

Step 9: Connecting the pump to the power source

EverythingIt's in the right position so I can seal the hole where the cable goes through. I used hot glue to seal that hole.

Once this is done, I can connect the power connector with a 12V DC power adapter. If you have another type of water pump, you may not need to use a power adapter.

This means that I have finished mounting the font.

Step 10: Add some water to the bucket

The last step is to add water to the bucket. How much water you add depends on the pump, but mostly on your taste. I added enough water to cover the pump and make sure it works properly.

Then I connected the pump and waited to see the final result.

And my project was a success. The water rose, began to flow along the sides through the holes, creating the illusion of a floating faucet.

It came out wonderful! And the sound of flowing water is absolutely incredible!
