How to Make a Wooden Lamp with Hangers, these hanger lamps have a very simple appearance, but to make them I had to improvise some carpentry guides.

Although the truth is that, for me, one of the most beautiful parts of this hobby is doing projects in which I have to improvise carpentry guides.

To make this wooden lamp with hangers, the first thing I have to do is remove the horizontal rod from the wooden hangers (the one on which we hang the pants).

Simply pull on the ends of the rods to tear them off.

And then with pliers I removed the small nails that held the rod in place.

Now I need to modify the guide to cut at 90 degrees with the circular saw, to cut the hangers.

This way I can cut all the wooden hangers more or less in the middle and into two equal parts.

This way I can put the hangers on the guide to cut them into two equal halves.

I fit the hanger into the modified template, press it with a stop under the sheet metal the saw runs on, and cut it.

I remove the piece of hanger that was fitted to the template, fit the piece that was loose, and cut it too. so both will be equal.

And I do the same with all the hangers.

The gleaning guide

Now I have to improvise a guide to make holes to insert studs. This guide allows me to drill a 6mm hole in the cut I made in each half of the hangers.

And the important thing is that it allows me to make all the holes in the same position.

This improvised doweling guide is very simple to make and fits perfectly on the hangers for drilling the holes.

As we see in the image and in the video, we “only” need a tightening screw to hold the guide around the hanger and thus drill the holes for the wooden studs.

Now I only have to make a piece to which I can attach the hangers and shape the wooden lamp.

Almost as simple as making a wooden circle and drilling some holes to attach the hangers to the wooden studs.

In my case, making a wooden circle is easy if I use the guide to cut circles with the table jigsaw.

Then I use a protractor to draw a radius for each hanger I want to attach to it. This way I know where to drill the holes for the studs.

So now, to drill the holes in the wooden disk, I have to put the table of the drill press vertically.

And I have to clamp a small wooden board to the metal table of the drill press.

This way I can screw the disc to the wooden board and rotate it to drill the holes necessary to make the joints with the studs.

And to finish that piece, I have to use a hole saw bit to make a hole for the lamp holder.

In this case a lamp holder with a nut that will hold the lamp hanging from the cable.

Finally I can join the hangers to the circular piece with wooden dowels.

And when all the half hangers are together, I can use some toothpicks to keep the hangers separate.

I also use a threaded rod to hold the pieces together with a little pressure while the glue dries.

So, I practically finished making this lamp with wooden hangers.

As soon as the glue dries, I give it a couple of coats of spray varnish.

I wait for the varnish to dry and I can now put in the lamp holder and the bulb.

And now hang the lampfor my friend to hang it, since I already did enough making it 😀

And here are the two hanger lamps I made, one lamp with varnished wooden hangers and another with white hangers.
