1 Construction diagram

This A-shaped chicken coop can accommodate 3 or 4 chickens. The length needed will depend on the number of chickens you want to have. Use a weather-resistant outdoor wooden door, preferably of FSC-certified quality. These woods are impregnated with an environmentally safe material, so it is not necessary to apply any additional treatment

2 Basic structure

The first step is to assemble the basic structure of the chicken coop. Make the structure as shown in the drawing, with 44 x 44 mm bars. To prevent the wood from splintering when screwing the pieces together, it is best to pre-drill the holes for the screws.

3 A-shaped supports

LoA-shaped brackets are basically triangular. Saw the base of the triangle at 60° and the top at 30°. Next, join the bottom angles of the bars using galvanized screws about 65mm long.

Attach the A-shaped brackets to the upper crossbar

Continue to structure the chicken coop by attaching the three A-brackets to the top crossbar. Make sure the triangles line up well. Before attaching the top rail, use a spirit level to check whether the A-brackets are vertical.

5 Cross pieces

Next, screw the center cross pieces (about 30 inches long) to the sides of the A-brackets. Use a spirit level to check if the cross pieces are straight, as they will need to support the floor of the chicken coop.

6 Support beams

Now we are going to place the long bars, which also serve as carrying handles on the front and back. When placing the long bars, use a spirit level to ensure that the entire structure is perfectly horizontal. Then place the horizontal supports on both sides.

7 Floor

Saw a piece of plywood (or, better yet, formwork plywood) to the appropriate size and secure it with screws to the long bars and cross pieces.

8 Rear part of the roof

Next comes the back section of the chicken coop roof. It is made up of 165 x 22 mm slats that overlap each other.

9 Front roof

10 Rear part

Use a sharp circular saw or hand saw. Saw the back wall into a triangular shape the same as that of the A-frame bracket and secure it with screws.

11 Use the back wall as a door

You can use the back panel as an alternative chicken coop entrance. To do this, mount two hinges at the bottom. Then permanently attach the front of the roof with screws.

12 Steps

To make it easier for chickens to enter and exit the coop, create simple steps by securing cross slats with screws. Don't forget to pre-drill the holes to prevent the wood from splintering. Screw the steps to the cross pieces of the base frame.

13 Hangers

The diameter of the perches will depend on the size of your chickens. Place the perches about 15cm off the ground. Avoid using round hangers. Chickens have a hard time sitting on them safely. They should be square or oval in cross section. Each hanger should be on average about 5.5cm wide and 4cm thick. Place the widest side of the perch horizontally so that the chickens have good support.

Nest
Every chicken coop needs a nesting box. A 30 x 30 cm nest box with a height of about 40 cm is more than enough. Put a layer of gravel inside the nest box. This way the hens will be able to scrape the calcium from the gravel, a component they need for the shell of their eggs.

14 Apply metal fabric

Place the metal clothca on the chicken coop and secure it with staples or tacks. Then, as a finishing touch, place strips on the wire mesh so as not to hurt yourself on the edges. You can also attach the wire mesh before the support bars, but this will make it more difficult to position the ramp.

15 Material to cover the ground
