Wooden Stand for an Outdoor Hammock, made from common materials that can be purchased at any hardware store, this project is perfect if you don't have the right size trees in your garden (or any tree) but want to enjoy long summer nights outdoors in a cozy hammock.
Using only a drill and saw and about 3 hours, I was able to create this extremely durable yet easy to make hammock.

Step 3: The base

For the base, I took two 8 foot long wooden planks and cut a square from each end of the planks. The dimensions of these squares (which will be used as spacers) are W x W, where W is the width of the board you have chosen. Holding the two less than 8 foot boards together, I drilled four holes (see picture) with a drill bit to adjust the bolts to hold the arm and support beam.
After the holes have been finished, I double check that the screws fit perfectly through them before removing the clamps. Next, I take the spacers (placement shown in the picture) that we cut out earlier and screw them into the long boards, securing them together tightly.
Then I take a third 8 foot beam and cut it into 2x4 foot planks that will be my legs. I screw these legs into the bottom of the base making sure to tighten them completely. The base is now complete!
Tip: If the screws are too short to go through two layers of wood, simply drill a larger "pilot" holeof the screw head, then drill a hole smaller than the diameter of the screw into the larger screw.
The screw should then firmly hold the two pieces together.
Step 4: Arms and support bar

Depending on how far off the ground, your arms + supports will vary in length.
For me, I used a 5 foot arm and 3 foot stands.
First, start by cutting the desired lengths of supports and arms. Once this is done, place them in their designated locations on the base and drill holes through their pre-existing holes in the base into the newly cut pieces. This will ensure that your screws fit through these parts.
After that, screw everything into place (no need to tighten it). You will notice that the arm and stand do not fit and we will need to cut a triangular piece to make them compatible.
Also, cut a notch in the end of the arm so it can hold a rope to hang the hammock. Pay attention to which side you notch and repeat on the other side (guess who made this mistake).
Step 5: Secure the arm support assembly

To secure the arm support, we used our sheet of plywood to make a custom "bracket" to seat the arm on. If plywood is not available to you, using more wood planks is also fine for this step.
This part is easier if the entire assembly is resting on the ground.
First we draw the shape of the arm and the support on a sheet of plywood. Aesthetically speaking, it is best if the sloping top is aligned with the arm, so draw/measure carefully.
Once you have finished drawing, cut the plywood support and duplicate it 3 more times (2 for each side of the construction). Carefully line everything up, making sure everything is flush, and screw the plywood pieces to the support arm only.
When you have finished securing the plywood pieces to the support arm, you can drill a hole through the plywood and the arm to fasten another bolt.
Repeat this process on the other side as well.
And boom! We're done in just a few steps! Sand any rough edges and trim bolts to size, if desired.
Step 6: Enjoy the summer in your gadget!

Pat yourself on the back because it's DONE!
This hammock is extremely easy to modify and customize because it is made of fairly thick wood. I added a mosquito net, and am currently planning to add a plexi table.gable and a solar charger so I can use my computer from the comfort of my hammock.
If you make any modifications, have any modification suggestions, please post images in the comments below. I would love to see them.
