Dogs are amazing creatures—cute, clever, and always ready to lend a helping paw. But believe it or not, some folks aren’t big fans of our furry friends. And that’s okay! It’s important to understand that not everyone feels comfortable around dogs. Some people have had scary encounters in the past, which can make them cautious. Even if a dog is friendly, past experiences can linger.
Take Reddit user u/Adventurous-Sign-379, for example. They shared a tale about their workplace, where colleagues wanted to start “dog-friendly Fridays.” Sounds fun, right? But for OP, who isn’t too keen on dogs, it posed a problem. Feeling overwhelmed by the prospect of furry coworkers every Friday, they plucked up the courage to talk to HR. After a bit of back and forth, they managed to find a compromise.
However, word got out about their stance, and suddenly, they were labeled the office villain.

1. Here is another one adding to the big debate regarding whether dogs should be allowed everywhere or not.
2. A few coworkers of OP recently approached HR to allow dogs in the office on Fridays.
3. OP, on the other side, despises dogs but doesn’t tell anyone to avoid conflicts.
4. There is a big population that sides with dogs no matter what you associate them with.
5. HR gave the acceptance and made every Friday dog-friendly, which came as a surprise to OP.
6. OP said if it were a one-time thing, he would have simply taken the day off.
7. OP shared his thoughts with HR that he was not comfortable with this new policy.

8. HR said the dog-friendly Fridays have a lot of backing behind them. OP threatened to quit his job if the decision wasn’t reversed.
9. And it worked. HR reversed the decision and made dog-friendly Friday a one-time thing. The co-workers who started the movement didn’t like this, of course.

10. OP’s co-workers called him an AH for this so he asked the AITA community if this was the case.
Who knows who at the workplace is allergic to dogs…there could be a thousand ways one could be endangered by a dog at the workplace. Also, this would lower the workers’ productivity as well, I am so sure about it. Making it a one-time thing is acceptable but doing it over and over again day in and day out is not ideal for the business. The owner should understand this and should have intervened before letting HR give the go-ahead.

12. Having dogs every week is inconsiderate to those who don’t like having dogs around them.

13. Make it a quarterly thing is the response is brilliant. Doing it weekly should be declared illegal.

14. HR should do something that would make all employees happy, not a portion of them.
Via Shnipi
15. OP is entitled to a comfortable work environment. According to him, the dog-friendly Fridays would take that away from him.

16. It’s a distraction that will make it harder to get work done on a timely basis.
17. I think they had their fair share.

18. OP is not an evil AH after all.

19. OP is as much an employee as everyone else in that office. So his stance counts.

20. Workplaces are for working. You can go to pet cafes if you want to sit around animals and be all cute.
