Lighting Made of Oak and LED Wall Lights for the Stairs in Your Home, lighting for the staircase wall made of an oak board and LED strips.
How did I do it? You can check by searching DIY videos on youtube or you can follow the instructions below in this article.
For this project you will need:
Materials:
- Oak board (or any other piece of wood)
- L-shaped aluminum profile
- LED strips ~ 1.8 meters
- LED Drivers (12W @ 1.25A)
- Transparent varnish for finishes
Tools:
- Screwdriver
- Welder's knife
- Brush
- Table saw or hand saw
- Drill and bits
- Metal saw
- Router or Tupí
Step 1: Preparation of the oak boards

I had left this glued oak board from the previous project. It is 37 by 30 centimeters. The idea is to make three equal pieces, 9 by 35 centimeters. I cut them with my homemade table saw to a width of 9 centimeters and later shortened them by cutting them to 35 centimeters in length.
Edges sanded with 120 grit sandpaper to remove any saw marks.
Step 2: Router at work

With the Router, a slot was made to sink the aluminum profile with LED strips.
Marked and routed a hole to sink the LED driver.
Step 3: Aluminum profile

Cut 6 pieces of L-shaped aluminum profile. Drill two holes for screws. Because I don't have the countersink bit for the metal and countersinking them. This aluminum profile will do two functions. First, it will work as the LED heat sink, and second, it will stand on the oak board on a wall. That allows me to completely hide the LED driver inside.
Step 4: Step by step

Marked aluminum, pre-drilled and screwed into place. I want to hide all the cables, so I made a slot with the Router.
Step 5: LED Strips

I choose 12 volts and 18 w per meter LED strip. Those are really powerful and give off a good amount of light. In a lamp I will need two LED strips 30 centimeters long. So it will be around 11W in total. Cut 6 pieces in the length of 30cm, to then be glued in place.
Step 6: LED Driver

Each lamp will be powered by a separate LED driver providing 12V and up to 1.25A. As for my LED setup, I'll need around 11W. That means I have to give about 1A of current to turn it on completely.
At this point, I will recommend choosing a slightly more powerful LED driver than you will need. That will give a small reserve of energy. It will be great to have a 20% higher amperage rating than you will need.
Step 7: Final assembly

Use hot glue to fix the LED driver in place.
All cables are well hidden in the slot as well as the LED driver. He made a hanging tip from a piece of wire and made two holes in an aluminum profile.
Power cables shorted and connector block connected.
Step 8: Wood Finishing

For finishing, apply two coats of transparent matte varnish. Also, apply light sanding with fine-grit sandpaper between coats to remove roughness that appears after the first coat of varnish.
Step 9: Result

I really love that color combination of different boards, especially in the final grain. It's time to hang them on the staircase wall and have a complete view of our project.
Step 10: Installed on a wall

The best thing is that the color contrast of the oak boards is very close to the stairs. I am very satisfied with that. In addition, they will give the exact amount of light needed in this place.
