Xiaomi 16 Pro Max: Makes an impression with a screen on the back – The first photos 2026

We had heard rumors a few months ago that some of Xiaomi's phones for the Xiaomi 16 series will come with a secondary screen on the back. The company had done something similar with the Mi 11 Ultra and now it is returning to this idea. Today, however, we have photos of the company's flagship, which somewhat confirm the information.

According to Weibo user Mobile phone industry giant, the device is coming and even giving us the first real world photos of a Xiaomi 16 Pro Max. In the first photo we see the device inside a case, which has a hole under the island to accommodate two smaller cameras. Taking a closer look at the photo, however, we see the large island for the cameras, on the right side of which there seems to be an off panel. On the islet we also see a tiny hole for another sensor.

The same user also uploaded a second photo, which shows the device up close, resting on his leg. Here we see more clearly the details, such as the rear screen panel and the holes with the sensors.

In the photos if there is a screen on the back, then it is off, so it is good to remain cautious, although it seems that there is something there. These images also come after tipster Kartikey Singh first hinted in June that an upcoming Xiaomi flagship could have a secondary rear display. Then came the Smart Pikachu, adding that the secondary screen will be used for app notifications, displaying QR Codes for entry to events or for plane tickets, exercise tracking and artificial intelligence functions.

Xiaomi has experience with secondary displays, having already released the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra in 2021, with a 1.1-inch secondary display. Now, the first renders call for the device with an even bigger screen, which will cover almost the entire island. If we judge from the Mi 11 Ultra, then probably the rear screen will also be always on to show the time. We hope that the device will indeed come with a rear screen, because it will be quite useful for a large part of the public, while it can have a bunch of functions, like the external screen of the Flip devices.

With or without a secondary screen, the Xiaomi 16 Pro Max is expected with the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and a 7,500mAh battery, which is a big upgrade from the Xiaomi 15 Pro which had just 6,100mAh. I wish the device would be released outside of China, because Europe needs more competition, especially when the two big players, Apple and Samsung, due to the lack of competition in the US and Europe, have stopped innovating.
