Many employees go above and beyond their designated roles without reaping the rewards.
We all have those unforgettable moments from our past jobs that stick with us, whether they are humorous, surprising, or just plain strange. Today, we will share one of those stories with you – a memorable farewell that left everyone involved with a smile on their face.
It was a regular day at the law firm, and the original poster was preparing to bid farewell to his coworkers after landing a dream job in a different field. As OP recounts, the excitement of his impending departure was already in full swing. Little did he know that his last days at the firm would bring unexpected twists and turns. On what was supposed to be a routinely extended lunch break, OP found himself handling important business related to his new position. Despite arranging everything in advance and even coming in early, his lunchtime errands took longer than anticipated. Returning an hour later than planned, OP expected no big deal.
However, fate had other plans in store. To continue reading this hilarious story, check out the complete version below!
OP vividly remembers leaving his clerical role at a law firm 18 years ago after landing a dream job with better benefits, hours, and pay.
OP, being conscientious, took an extended lunch break to handle business for his new job, but ended up returning an hour later than planned, with only two days left at the current job.
OP was unexpectedly fired by the HR manager upon returning from his extended lunch break but he was secretly delighted to have extra days off before starting his new job and left his old workplace with a spring in his step.
Despite being a non-lawyer, OP handled the estate planning tasks at the law firm, generating forms, ensuring legal compliance, and then having the attorney quickly skim and sign them to bill clients at his hourly rate, while OP received minimal compensation for his work.
As OP packed his desk on his last day, he left his messy files piled in a box on the floor. A young attorney was assigned to take over OP’s work:
The young attorney came and told OP that the HR manager has told him that OP will show him what he needs to do:
OP had the satisfying opportunity to tell the young attorney that he didn’t work there anymore, pointing to the pile of files and suggesting that the HR manager would have to assist him:

And on his way out, OP pleasantly popped his head into the HR Manager’s office to assure her that there were no hard feelings and inform her that the young attorney would likely be seeking her assistance.
We’ve all had those tasks at work that we’re responsible for, even though they might not officially fall under our job description. In OP’s case, despite not being a lawyer, he found himself shouldering the responsibility of handling estate planning clients. From gathering information to generating forms and ensuring legal compliance, OP had taken care of it all. But there was one catch, while the law firm benefited financially from his work, OP received only meager compensation.
Nothing better than walking out with a head held high:

When the owner tells their employees that they are expendable:
This is how the HRs fire employees:

“Nibbler was at the shelter for 7 months, and no one wanted her because she was “feisty”. As soon as I saw her, I knew she was coming home with me. Just goes to show that some shelter animals just need the right home to thrive. It’s been 9 months since I brought her home and I love her so much.”
