9. OP has found another match, as suggested by the rescue. Hopefully this time things will work out.

A very clear NTA! OP would have been AH had he become stubborn and made the dog forcefully live with him. It would have made life h*ll for both the dog and OP. Poor guy wouldn’t have any place to let all his energy out and that can be very dangerous health-wise. OP, on the other hand, because never got what he wanted, would have had a terrible time trying to control/train the dog. Some mismatches can never become matches, no matter how hard you try.

The decision okay took was sober and correct.
