Delphi Lux – Berlin
The Delphi Lux cinema, which belongs to the Yorck Group, is located in the immediate vicinity of the Berlin Zoo train station. According to “visitberlin” in addition to German films, European art house productions and American independent films are shown here. The seven cinema halls are individually designed and differ in color and material - including rooms in red, blue, green and pink. The connecting element is the various strips of light that extend from the halls to the cinema foyer - a creative design concept that even earned the responsible architectural firm the FRAME Award for interior design.
Caligari Filmbühne – Wiesbaden
Another highlight for film fans is the Caligari Filmbühne in Wiesbaden. Originally opened in 1926 as a silent film cinema, the building was extensively remodeled some thirty years later. Since then, a wave-shaped gallery and golden Art Deco lights have characterized the style of the cinema. Between red velvet armchairs and black walls, the cinema shows not only German productions, but also international documentaries, short films and arthouse films, according to Wiesbaden.de. At the same time, the Caligari Film Stage regularly serves as a venue for premieres and film festivals, including the annual German TV Crime Festival.
Lichtburg – Essen
A visit to the cinema at the Lichtburg Essen, the largest cinema in Germany, is anything but ordinary. Anyone who sits down in one of the 1,250 seats here could almost feel “underdressed” due to the impressive architecture. The listed main hall, which is designed in the style of the 1950s, is more reminiscent of a theater than a classic cinema with its round ceiling elements and indirect lighting. So it's no wonder that film premieres with prominent guests regularly take place in this elegant atmosphere.
Zoo Palace – Berlin
The Zoo Palast in Berlin's Charlottenburg district is one of the classics of our cinema landscape and is considered by some to be the most famous cinema in Germany. As one of the main venues for the Berlinale, the cinema attracts film fans and international stars from film and television every year. After the building, which opened in 1957, was renovated, four of the original halls remain today, preserving the style of the Golden Fifties.

But films are not only shown here during international premieres - regular cinema operations also offer a wide range of programs. A special highlight is the starry sky on the eleven-meter-high ceiling of Kino Eins. There is also a box service where, according to Zoopalast, food and drinks can be ordered directly to your seat until the film starts.
Between splendor and cosiness
Room 1 in the Zoo Palast has always been an eye-catcher. Not only is its size impressive every time, but also its design. The curtain is one of the most beautiful I know and the whole room breathes history, style and taste for the film experience. A suitable location for events like “Titanic” in January 1998 with an introductory laser show. With its reopening in 2013, the halls have become even more beautiful, with individual, very atmospheric lighting concepts. But the small club cinemas are particularly cozy: Here you sit surrounded by full bookshelves as if in a luxurious living room. By the way, the books are not just decoration, but can be exchanged for your own. I like to go here – no matter what’s on the agenda.
Filmtheater Weltspiegel – Cottbus
The all-white plastered facade of the Weltspiegel film theater immediately catches the eye. And the interior of the second oldest functional cinema building, according to “cottbus.de”, will also be remembered. Since opening in 1911, the style of the main hall has largely been retained despite renovations. A gilded ceiling decorates the comparatively simple rank. In addition to the traditional elements, the Weltspiegel film theater has also had two more modern halls, a film bar and a roof terrace since its renovation.
Metropolis Cinema – Hamburg
The Metropolis in the Neustadt district of Hamburg is a comparatively small but cozier cinema. In a listed cinema with 281 seats, film fans can see, among other things, silent films with musical accompaniment, film classics and international productions. There is also a cinema bar in the basement that sells snacks and drinks.
Schauburg Film Theater – Dresden
The Schauburg cinema in Dresden's Neustadt not only offers a diverse film program, but also regularly hosts comedy and theater performances. With a total of five halls named after well-known personalities from film history (including a Charlie Chaplin hall), the cinema offers a nostalgic ambience - and of course there is popcorn too.
